PURPOSE:
The University electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment throughout the campus. This role includes ensuring that all electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with local codes and regulations. The University Electrician will troubleshoot electrical issues, perform routine inspections, and work on both large and small-scale electrical projects within university buildings and facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, electrical panels, and circuits across campus facilities.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems, making repairs or replacements as needed to minimize downtime.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with university policies, electrical codes, and safety regulations.
- Assist in the setup and maintenance of electrical systems for university events or special projects.
- Maintain accurate records of electrical repairs, maintenance, and inspections.
- Respond to emergency electrical issues and provide quick resolution to ensure campus safety.
- Collaborate with other departments for facility improvements, renovations, or new construction projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as an electrician, with a strong understanding of electrical systems and code. (Experience in commercial or institutional settings is a plus).
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid electrician's license or certification as required by local regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices in electrical work.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to work in various weather conditions. Lifting and carrying objects of varying weights, standing for extended periods, walking frequently, climbing ladders, bending and stooping, reaching overhead, pushing or pulling heavy items, kneeling, crouching, manual dexterity for handling small objects.
- You must have the ability to occasionally work at heights and in confined spaces, safely.
