JOB TITLE: Mining Engineer
REPORTS TO: General Manager
DEPARTMENT: Engineering (MSS)
Job Summary:
The Mine Engineer assists in all areas of the engineering department’s major activities including mine planning, permitting, special projects, monitoring, surveying, and drafting. This position assists in the planning, reporting, evaluation, and implementation of the mine plan with input from Operations Department to achieve lowest cost production.
Essential Functions:
- Able to meet physical demands according to Physical Demands Analysis
- Participate in the development, design, planning, permitting and implementation of engineering projects required for efficient functions of the operation in meeting mine goals and budgets
- Assist with month-end reporting
- Assist in periodic government inspections and required reporting
- Assist in long and short-term mine planning, reporting and special project functions to maximize coal recovery in a safe and efficient manner while protecting the environment
- Effectively communicate the mine plan
- Assist in mine permit and license acquisition by conducting research of technical or regulatory issues, compiling data, and preparing accurate and timely reports, tracing mine plan implementation and progress
- Responsible for the development and completion of projects in the areas of surveying and drafting
- Look for and implement continuous improvement in the engineering function
- Provide back-up for Senior Mine Engineer
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Other tasks and projects as assigned
Position Prerequisites/Preferences/Certifications/Qualifications:
- BS degree in Mining Engineering or related field
- PE
- 2-5 years underground mining experience
- Experience with geotechnical techniques and geology
- Possess team participation and conflict resolution skills
- Self-motivated
- Experience in project management
- Good communication skills (verbal, written, listening and presentation) and interpersonal skills to work effectively with vendors, outside organizations and internal contacts
- Knowledge of technology to support engineering activities such as surveying (GPS, Level) and drafting hardware and software including computer skills that include a knowledge of Microsoft Office 2007 software applications
- Excellent organization skills
- Excellent math skills
GENERAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: The employee must be able to follow specific instructions while maintaining acceptable established standards of work performance and conduct, show the necessary and consistent energy, as well as acceptable mental and physical dexterity, for the satisfactory completion of the essential duties as summarized and defined. The employee must exhibit acceptable interpersonal skills and the continuous ability to work in a team-oriented atmosphere.
