Consider joining our committed team of staff and being part of an innovative, inclusive and rewarding workplace.   Main Purpose and Function   These positions report to the Construction Inspector Supervisor (EA IV) for the annual sidewalk inspection and inspections for the removal of snow and ice from public sidewalks.   Specific Duties and Responsibilities Responsible to carry out routine field inspections or investigations as part of the Sidewalk & Street Hazard Inspection program and supports field inspections related to utility construction and developments affecting City assets. Enters visual and field inspection information into various branch or department databases for tracking purposes and collects engineering data that generates reports. Some judgment needed in assessing the nature and degree of the condition of surface assets. Performs a variety of simple calculations and technical work in order to meet Branch program requirements. Undertakes inspections regarding the removal of snow or ice from sidewalks, supporting the Streets and Traffic Bylaw. Other duties/responsibilities as required.   Qualifications Education and Experience: Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work plus some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of high school mathematics and familiarity with engineering practices, methods, and materials. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with other staff, property owners, and members of the public. Ability to collect, organize and analyze field data and to record simple and clear information. Ability to identify simple solutions related to the engineering work. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to meet program completion deadlines on a consistent basis. Ability to interpret engineering specifications. Ability to perform physical work outside in various weather conditions.   Driver's License and Record Checks: A current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record is preferred.
