Job Summary
The Engineering Associate is a technical role at Prototek and will support the company’s business growth and profit objectives by providing technical expertise across a variety of company functional and operational areas.  It is an entry level rotational development program. This team member will work for General Manager rotating to specific functions: Commercial Estimating, Quality, and Operations. The team member will possess an excellent understanding of design, manufacturing, material science, and material behavior. The person will work with GM/Operational leadership to learn operational process flows and identify and implement opportunities for improvement.  It includes learning ability to program and optimize production builds.   The role includes working with Quality leadership to understand customer technical requirements and follow through with fulfilment.    The role includes working with the Commercial team to solve customer challenges and deliver winning proposals for work.

Essential Functions
Engineering

  • Work for the General Manager and operational staff to develop productivity improvements to reduce cost & put Prototek in position to increase capacity, throughput, and win more work
  • Support customers as needed to solve manufacturing challenges and design problems
  • MRP software proficiency supporting all departments: Become a expert with our Manufacturing Resource Planning software to provide support to all departments as needed.
  • CAD model and drawing proficiency (Solidworks ): Comfortable in a CAD environment. Able to extract dimensions from digital models and understand drawing requirements. Able to produce CAD models and drawings, as directed. A solid understanding of GD&T
  • Review cost vs revenue of selected completed jobs to improve estimating methodology as needed.


Commercial Additive

  • Work for the Estimating Manager to develop proposals for key customers working with sales and estimating group to a successful win %.
  • Quickly learn estimating and contribute to the technical understanding of others.
  • Be a team resource to solve technical customer challenges and drive Prototek customer wins
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Follow up with customers to determine why an order was not secured and implement appropriate changes.
  • Other commercial duties as assigned


Operational

  • Provide manufacturing engineering support to General Manager on a project basis to drive productivity and quality control improvements.
  • Learn process flows and machine operations with a focus on process improvements
  • Review and develop manufacturing standard work procedures as needed
  • Drive productivity of operations based on specific projects or improvement ideas


Quality

  • Work for Quality leadership to address customer quality and documentation expectations and requirements
  • Understand quality process flows and identify opportunities for overall process flow and improvement

 

  • Other responsibilities and projects assigned


Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of Manufacturing process including 3-D printing, machining, and finishing
  • Design experience
  • Possess a strong understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Able to comprehensively read and interpret detailed manufacturing drawings
  • Proficient Solidworks user
  • Well-rounded understanding of all manufacturing equipment
  • Well-rounded understanding of material science
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Etc.)

Education and Experience: 

  • BS in Engineering in fields such as Mechanical, Industrial, and Design
  • Experience in manufacturing


Physical Requirements & Professional Experience:

  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate computers, equipment, hand/power tools, etc. and handle and feel parts of various size
  • Ability to bend, kneel and crouch occasionally throughout the shift
  • Ability to push, pull or lift 50 lbs. moderately throughout the workday
  • Ability to focus vision for: close vision, vision, depth perception and adjusting to sharp focus
  • Noise conditions can be moderate to extreme. Hearing protection will be provided if needed and/or by request
  • Exposure to fumes and/or airborne particles
  • Moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • Fast-paced environment


Work Hours/Travel:

  • Full time
  • 8 hours M-F
  • Overtime as necessary
  • Flexible scheduling in agreement with supervisor
  • TRAVEL: one to two times a month to other operational sites and customers as needed
