Engineering Manager

Position Summary: Mills Recruitment, a leading recruitment agency in Perth, is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager for a key role within the Manufacturing Department of one of our clients. The Engineering Manager will drive strategic initiatives, lead projects, and ensure alignment with company objectives. This role is pivotal in managing and guiding engineering activities, ensuring they are executed efficiently and effectively. Essential Criteria: Qualifications: Qualified Electrical Fitter/Mechanic (Essential) Diploma of Engineering (Highly Desirable) Experience: Extensive experience in switchboard manufacturing, engineering, and project management. Proven ability to lead and manage a team. Experience in planning, implementing, and managing multiple projects simultaneously within tight timeframes. Proficient in using relevant systems, processes, and technologies. Strong track record in delivering high-quality electrical engineering services. Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviors): Strong ability to develop relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, negotiate outcomes, and deliver quality solutions. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with sound judgment. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to envision and implement effective solutions. Ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve quality outcomes within tight deadlines. Up-to-date knowledge of developments in switchboard engineering. Strong commitment to health and safety standards. Strategic thinking and financial acumen. Main Responsibilities: Engineering Management: Lead department activities to design new products/services and enhance existing designs and production techniques. Analyse technology trends, resource needs, and market demand to plan projects. Collaborate with executive management, operations, production, and planning teams to evaluate engineering feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products/services. Forecast departmental operating costs and oversee budget preparation. Ensure the availability of engineering services when required and provide technical support as needed. Act as a technical advisor on engineering projects, recommending solutions or new services/products/technologies. Management and Leadership: Manage, motivate, and assess direct reports to ensure the effective delivery of engineering activities. Conduct workforce planning to ensure adequate resourcing for projects. Oversee contractors and project managers working on specific projects. Professional Development: Stay current with the latest engineering requirements and their impact on the company. Attend industry forums, seminars, and conferences as necessary. Project Management: Foster positive relationships with clients and suppliers, and establish and monitor service level agreements. Monitor project deliverables and expenditures to ensure contractual compliance. Strategic and Budget Planning: Establish and implement short- and long-term departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Report on actual performance against budget for projects. Key Relationships: Engineers and Technicians: Daily interaction to ensure effective management of engineering resources. Executive Team: Escalate issues as required in a timely manner. External Stakeholders (Clients/Suppliers): Negotiate service level agreements, maintain relationships, and request information as needed.
