What you’ll do The Data Catalogue team is a group of highly qualified backend and frontend engineers. The team manages the Data Catalogue, the place where everyone at Adevinta can discover all existing data assets, search and manage rich metadata, request and manage access in a self-service fashion. The Data Catalogue is part of the Data Hub and it commonly collaborates with different teams at developing and maintaining other functionalities. Data Hub is the place where more than 9,000 people across 14 countries can manage Kafka clusters and pipelines, create or edit data transformation pipes, assess and control the quality of the datasets, discover and explore tens of thousands of datasets among many other functionalities. The Data Catalogue is developed over LinkedIn’s Data Hub Open Source platform. We closely collaborate with the team in charge of the third-party product and we are commonly featured as top contributors. We have successfully merged more than 30 PRs over the last 12 months. We are looking for an experienced, technical Engineering Manager with a passion for data to lead one of our teams in Barcelona. The data catalogue provides the first of a series of crucial steps and marks the beginning of many of our users' journeys, from Data discovery to Data exploration. It also represents one of the key elements to drive our data mesh journey. As part of the Data Highway area, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from and share knowledge with engineers, UX specialists, and data scientists. We encourage a diverse, collaborative, and creative work environment, where you will develop and push for the state-of-the-art in big data processing and build reliable, highly scalable services with an emphasis on volume, velocity, and privacy. Your Responsibilities Support the team and help them with high-level tech decisions and technical architecture, as well as to raise blockers and needs from the rest of the organisation. Mentor team members in their career development. Help the teams with coordination/alignment/methodology challenges and issues. Be the liaison between the team and the rest of the organisation: Ensure the team’s external blockers and issues are correctly identified, communicated, and addressed. Work closely with the team’s Product Manager(s) and the larger product organisation to ensure the team is building the right products. Collect strategy and high-level direction from senior management to influence roadmaps and short-term backlogs, as well as be the representative and advocate of the team in the upper-management councils. Communicate big updates & act as mediator between the team and other parts of the organisation, including in case of major issues (technical and otherwise). Be responsible for maintaining healthy team dynamics and keep the team output at high, measured levels of velocity, quality, and reliability. Set the team for continuous improvement. Who you are First and foremost a people person: assertiveness, empathy, influence, fairness, honesty, humbleness. Excellent oral and written communication (English). Experience in software development lifecycle: agile, lean startup, scrum, kanban, OKR, etc. Leadership: influencer, change driver, people & org developer, strategic thinker. Technical skills: familiar with running a global data organisation, offering capabilities and services like event collection, stream/batch pipelines, data mesh and the pros/cons connected with such infrastructures is a nice to have. Previous experience with data asset inventory tools, such as Apache Atlas or LinkedIn Data Hub, is highly considered as a plus. Ability to understand and review code.
