Engineering Manager (Mechanical Systems)



The Engineering Manager (Mechanical Systems) will lead and develop a talented team of mechanical engineers that deliver mass-production opto-mechanical systems for our Augmented-Reality Head-Up Display (AR-HUD) products. Critical to the role is to deliver to schedule several concurrent mechanical designs needed at various stages of product maturity (including from reference design through to automotive-grade qualified systems for mass production). A key part of this role is to strengthen our clients overall Mechanical capabilities (including DFT and DFM), improve design efficiency and quality, update design processes (PDM/PLM).



Duties and responsibilities



* Ensure that our clients’ products and components are developed in accordance with project & customer requirements, product specifications and program schedules.



* Line management of the current mechanical engineering team including project planning, sample scheduling and resource allocation & planning (internal and/or outsourced).



* Coordinate activities with other members of the technical and project management team responsible for project and program delivery, identifying risks to delivery and planning mitigation as needed.



* Support development within automotive development processes, in line with APQP and appropriate design validation steps towards product launch, including environmental compliance.



* Lead the team with appropriate change management processes, root cause analyses, corrective action requests, problem-solving teams as related to issues affecting the project



* Ensure best-practices are instilled in the development process, with appropriate requirements capture, design documentation, design reviews, design-for-test, design-for-manufacturing, validation plans and execution.



* Work with contract manufacturing to ensure the designs progressively mature in the development process, from cost, manufacturability, and quality perspectives. Oversee ECOs and eBOM management within a new PLM/PDM framework.



* Work with the Supply Chain team to ensure that our clients designs are robust to supply chain shortages and risks, and achieve lowest overall integration and manufacturing costs.



* Support industrialization activities with critical new suppliers, from trial samples to high volume samples.



* Manage the professional development of reports via team meetings, one-to-one meetings, appraisals, appropriate training etc., enabling them to contribute efficiently and effectively to the needs of the business.

Qualifications and Experience



* 5 years’ experience of developing “high-technology” automotive products from concept design to mass production.



* A strong understanding and proven experience of the design and development of -mechanical systems with optical and electrical components.



* Experience of the complete design process, from the writing of requirements and specifications through to the testing and production of new products.



* Proven team building and management experience, able to specify and plan projects and achieve delivery.



* Education: Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical degree
