This new role will be responsible for monitoring our applications deployed in AWS, recommending performance enhancements and operational best practices.The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in AWS solutions, with experience in establishing SRE processes and observability best practices. This role is for an Engineering Manager who will continue building an SRE practice at PropertyFinder and grow the practice to govern observability best practices. You will provide comprehensive reports and frequent presentations to C-level and the Engineering leadership team.Key ResponsibilitiesSRE Management:Lead, recruit and oversee the development and growth of a team of SRE engineersOversee the development and enforcement of observability practices and application performance.Set the standard SLA/SLI/SLOs for all applications built by Property Finder.Monitor all cloud and corporate IT applications for observability related events.Incident management: Act as first point of contact for incidents and work with Product squads for resolution within defined SLOs.Gather and analyze metrics from operating systems as well as applications to assist in performance tuning and fault findingPartner with development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release proceduresImprove SDLC through post-incident reviews and process - technical adjustmentsParticipate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planningCreate sustainable systems and services in order to improve team efficiency through automation and upliftsBalance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service-level objectivesDesired Qualifications & ExperienceMinimum 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role having led a team.Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science or related disciplineExperience with observability and monitoring tools, such as Cloudwatch and DatadogUnderstanding of SLIs, SLOs and SLAs and how to implement metrics to capture and visualise those.Ability to program using one or more high-level languages, such as Python, GoLang or TypeScriptExperience with cloud compute technologies and architecture, specifically, AWS, using Kubernetes and Serverless environments.Proactive approach to identifying problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement to build resilient systems through consistent communication channels with developers and stakeholders.Preferred skills and qualificationsPrevious success in technical engineering and leadershipCoding experience beyond simple scriptsKnowledge about load testing tools and how to implement load testing.Knowledge about database management systems, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB and general differences between MySQL and NoSQL.Knowledge about networking protocols: TCP, UDP, QUIC (optional)Our promise to talentWe encourage our people, called creators, to move fast, to be bold and offer them countless ways to make an impact in a fast-growing and talent-centric organisation.
