Engineering Technician

Based in any of our 13 Ontario or 2 Alberta office locations, or from an alternative location, the Engineering Technician will report to the Project Manager and will have a wide range of duties which ultimately focus on providing engineering field support services such as surveying, compaction testing, material sampling and testing, and inspection. You will be part of a team that provides construction field services on mining and other heavy civil infrastructure/development projects, working on client-driven schedules. What You’ll Do: The Engineering Technician will be part of the Mining & Construction Services team. You will:   Perform on-site survey services including: Control surveys Earthworks layout and as-builts Volumetric and quantity validation surveys High-precision layout and as-builts for structure and building construction. This may include layout and as-builts of anchor bolts, grid lines, formwork, structural components, etc. Perform UAV / drone surveys for imagery and volumetrics Review and redline drawings throughout construction Perform compaction testing using a nuclear densometer and complete the associated reports to verify that granular material is meeting site-specific requirements Perform sampling of various types of material using industry-accepted sampling practices for the purposes of capturing material samples to be analyzed in a materials testing laboratory Perform laboratory testing of various materials such as soils, aggregates, and concrete Perform laboratory tests including sieve analyses, proctor density, concrete testing, and various other tests Perform construction inspection services and work alongside contractors and project developers to observe and report on construction activities and progress. You may also be required to monitor and approve various stages of earthworks construction such as stripping, subgrade, lift thicknesses and material placement, compaction, and general procedure Employees will receive adequate training to ensure they are set up for success and prepared for tasks on any given project. You are well-rounded and looking to advance your expertise as a field services expert You understand that travelling to remote project sites is a part of the job and you are comfortable with staying in a camp environment You can work on a client-driven rotational schedule, such as 1- or 2-weeks-in, 1- or 2-weeks-out You are excited to join a team that collaborates to meet project objectives You are physically fit and willing to work outside in all weather conditions You can make decisions and exercise independent judgment You are not afraid to raise your hand when you need help or guidance You are trusted with the freedom to work independently while contributing to team success What You Should Bring: The ideal candidate will have a college diploma from a Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or Survey Technician program or 5+ years of surveying/civil construction experience. Additionally, you should have:   High motivation with results-oriented focus Superior organizational and multi-tasking skills Unwavering commitment to health and safety in the workplace Familiarity with drafting and CAD software such as Civil3D, MicroSurvey, MOSS, Metashape Ability to operate a Total Station and GPS survey equipment Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills Good communication skills (oral and written) Valid Class G driver’s licence What We Offer You: TULLOCH has built a passionate workforce with a strong and vibrant culture which has been the key to our success.
