Salary: £65,000 - £75,000

The Role

We are searching for an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to lead the company's efforts in maintaining a safe and environmentally responsible workplace. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in EHS management, with a preference for experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, particularly in the food industry. Proficiency in driving world-class manufacturing systems and processes, such as Lean Six Sigma, is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

As the EHS Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the senior management team and collaborate closely with colleagues to establish safety protocols and promote a culture of safe working practices.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert guidance, support, and innovative solutions for safety and environmental challenges.

  • Developing and effectively implementing appropriate Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures, ensuring they are updated in compliance with changing Legislation, Company Directives, and ISO requirements.

  • Reporting and communicating effectively with senior management to ensure site-wide compliance and the achievement of Health & Safety and environmental objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Supporting the implementation of ISO 45001 and establishing relevant KPIs for data analysis to drive sustainable improvements in safety, quality, and overall performance.

  • Promoting Health & Safety awareness and safe working practices within the workplace through practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial.

  • Conducting audits, maintenance, and reviews of control measures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Providing relevant training, education, communication, and subject matter expertise to the site and stakeholders.

  • Coordinating incident investigations, monitoring safety concerns, near misses, accidents, and RIDDOR reports, and recommending actions to prevent future incidents.

  • Conducting site inspections, safety tours, and audits, offering guidance and support to line management for necessary corrective actions.

  • Managing the Site HSE Department functions and supporting functions, including the first aid team, H&S Representatives, and H&S Committee.

Requirements

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Experience with assessments, PUWER, auditing, and culture development.

  • Profound understanding and experience with legal systems, regulatory enforcement processes, and relevant legislation.

  • Familiarity with safety and environmental management systems, such as ISO 45001, ISO 14001, with preference for candidates holding a level 6 health and safety qualification or higer.

  • Experience in crafting health, safety, and environmental policies.

  • A track record of supporting Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development for shop floor activities, auditing current processes versus future state, and implementing metrics for continuous improvement.

  • Prior experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry.
