Starting Salary: $23.93- $24.84 Per Hour, Dependent on Qualifications.

Primary office location: 1600 N. Midwest Blvd

This is a Safety Sensitive Position. 

Statement of Department Goal:

The City of Edmond Water Resources department manages, monitors, and maintains Edmond’s water production and wastewater treatment infrastructure. Additional areas of focus include water conservation and water planning and Capital Improvements.

Water Treatment and Supply includes the Arcadia Lake Water Treatment Plant, pumping stations, water towers and storage tanks, and 52 water wells located throughout Edmond. The Arcadia Lake Water Treatment Plant is currently under construction to expand our capacity from 12 million gallons per day to 30 MGD and will have the ability to expand to 65 MGD through future upgrades. We are also adding 20+ wells around the city, the first 10 began in April 2021.

Wastewater Treatment includes the Coffee Creek Water Resource Recovery Facility and wastewater lift stations located throughout Edmond. The Coffee Creek Water Resource Recovery Facility is currently under construction to increase wastewater treatment capacity from 6 million gallons per day to 12 MGD and comply with new requirements from the ODEQ/EPA.

About the position:

  • Perform testing on water, wastewater, soil, and sludge samples in accordance with approved methods and according to Water Resources sampling plan.
  • Assess laboratory testing done by others to ensure adherence to the Water Resources Quality System.
  • Analyze samples using instrumental analysis for sample accuracy. 
  • Update the Laboratory Information Management System to ensure data is available for retrieving, tracking, and trending. 
  • Conduct in-house Quality and Technical audits of laboratory operations ensuring data produced is within established levels of accuracy and performed according to required standards annually.

  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, physical sciences, or related field of study, including a minor in Chemistry or Biology and must have at least four semester hours of Microbiology or obtain within one year from date of hire. 
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Divers License and a Driving record acceptable to the City’s Insurance carrier. 
  • Must have or be able to obtain Class “B” water and wastewater laboratory operator licenses within 6 months and Class “A” within one year.
  • Must be able to create new SOP’s, GLP’s, SAP’s, control charts, and other Quality Manual supporting documentation as required by method and NELAC accreditation standards. 
  • Must know how to establish quantifying uncertainty in analytical measurements.
  • Must be able to statistically analyze all laboratory data and express this data into current format used for the validity, analysis of variance and correlation techniques for required documentation and expression of QC data. 
  • Must be able to collect, organize, gather, interpret, and uses laboratory data to prepare routine and special technical reports for regulatory agencies. 
  • The laboratory operates seven days a week/ 365 days per year, weekend and holiday work is a requirement. Must be available for call back as required by the schedule. 
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings and an investigative background process.
