As operators of Europe’s largest plastic film recycling centre in Geleen, Netherlands we are experts in recycling post-consumer waste (PCR) into refuse sacks and indoor bin liners. Our usage of recycled plastic is constantly growing as more and more customers and consumers embrace the challenge of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, improving the environment for the next generation.

The role

We are currently seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist to join our team. As a subject matter expert, the successful candidate will ensure our internal regulations and actions comply with legal requirements for occupational health and safety, environmental protection and fire protection. The role also encompasses continuous improvement of safety conditions.

Main responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Conducting initial and basic health and safety training for employees in line with business and legislative requirements.
  • Ensuring all visitors/contractors/suppliers are compliant with safety regulations.
  • Conducting the inspection of working conditions and observance of regulations and rules of safety and health at work.
  • Carrying out risk assessments to identify hazards and propose solutions in line with the process owners – including Process, COSHH, PUWER, MAC.
  • Preparing and presenting UK accident data and H&S improvements to the Group on a monthly basis.
  • Preparing and analysing accident data and introducing preventative measures to prevent these re-occurring. Participating in preparation of accident claims, as well as implementation of the actions presented in the conclusions.
  • Co-operating with authorised external laboratories to carry out tests and measurements on the working environment and working with key stakeholders to implement the required recommendations
  • Supervising environmental issues and waste management and co-operating with relevant authorities on environmental issues.
  • Driving key environmental projects for the site, establishing appropriate metrics and controls to meet with the legislative and certification requirements.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Hold a formal health and safety qualification at level 3 or above (such as the NEBOSH General Certificate) or demonstrable significant & relevant experience in health and safety
  • Recent experience of at least 2 years in duration in a health and safety role
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Demonstrable experience of working to deadlines
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Experience in delivering, recording and sourcing training

The position is primarily based at our UK site in Telford, Shropshire, but offers hybrid working.
