Environmental Practitioner

Avenue are currently seeking an Environmental Practitioner for a well established client.

The purpose of the role is to manage the effective operation of the Environmental Management System (EMS) and provide professionally competent specialist environmental advice for all operational activities and projects. The Environmental Practitioner will support staff throughout the company in relation to understanding and assessing the environmental impacts and risks associated with site activities, processes, products, and services, ensuring all relevant environmental compliance obligations are met.

The Role



Act as the principle point of contact with respect to environmental matters and represent the HSSE department as required at internal/external committees and meetings including with regulatory bodies

Liaise closely with all levels of workers, including contractors in providing advice and guidance relating to the EMS and the delivery of best environmental practice including compliance obligations.

Develop and maintain the Environmental Management System in conformance with ISO 14001:2015 certification.

Carry out appropriate investigations into significant environmental incidents and trends in near misses to ensure suitable and sufficient steps are taken to reduce / prevent reoccurrence

Support the prevention of environmental incidents and near misses through general and specific education, awareness training and verification inspections

Prepare, develop, and review a comprehensive suite of controlled Environmental Management System policies, process maps and support documentation including legally required records) maintained to be relevant, extant, and compliant with ISO14001:2015

Manage a comprehensive environmental audit programme as an internal environmental auditor or lead auditor

Develop and deliver continual environmental improvement projects in accordance with company strategy, policy, context and agreed objectives

Describe the size and scope of the job e.g. budgets, other amounts/work volumes e.g. commercial contract or project value typically managed within the job.

As the principle environmental SME at site, the role will include a broad scope to ensure the management of environmental risk and compliance. The role will be far ranging from reviewing and managing environmental strategies and can complex environmental assessments (especially if dealing with new legislation), to site audits, walk arounds and investigation reports.

The role also involves understanding and managing environmental aspects across all areas of the site, including incident investigation of spills and discharges from vessels etc.

To support in the development of strategies in order to ensure the client meets all legislative and government targets as part of this the role will involve leading the Environmental Management Team to deliver these requirements.The Candidate



Excellent knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 - Environmental Management Systems

Knowledge of all applicable Environmental Legislation and other requirements including managing the delivery of any Environmental Permits and Licences.

Sound understanding of Scottish Environmental Regulations and knowledge of SEPA guidance and best practice.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, coach and educate.

Analytical Problem-Solving Skills, using data, making sense of facts and figures to develop creative, rational solutions.

Managing and dealing with Environmental incidents and risks.

Experience in carrying out Environmental Audits and site investigations.

Experience in conducting Due Diligence Audits and inspections.

Writing, managing, and ensuring the implementation of policies, procedures, process maps, reports etc.

Basic understanding of climate change and emissions reporting

An HND or Degree in Environmental Studies or equivalent
