Looking for a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.

Communication skills are crucial since this person will be working with individuals at all levels. This role will require a lot of interaction with federal agencies and regulators; it is imperative that candidates have excellent communication skills.

Work schedule / location:
The ideal scenario would be to find someone in Houston who can come into the Houston office and work a "standard" schedule (3 days in the office and 2 days remote). Due to the urgency of finding a qualified candidate for this specialized role the manager is willing to consider someone outside of the Houston area and would allow this person to work remotely.


Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing environmental permitting support to comply with federal, state, and local regulations. The candidate will work closely with management, operations, and other HES professionals to support the preconstruction program and environmental assessments of operational locations.

This position will report to the Environmental Supervisor and will be responsible for environmental pre-construction permitting support in the development of the Permian, Oklahoma, and Eagle Ford Assets. The successful candidate will be located in the Houston, TX office with the ability to travel 15-25% of the time to field locations.

Primary responsibilities:
• Execute all environmental assessments & site characterization for new pads, expansion of existing pads and flowline installations.
* Attend all Marathon preconstruction and pad development meetings via Microsoft Teams unless a specific meeting in person is required.
* Maintain constant communications with the Facilities & Construction and Subsurface teams to ensure that preconstruction terms are accurate and timely, and conditions are achievable.
* Perform desktop reviews for floodplains, jurisdictional waters, endangered species, and archaeological sites.
* Obtain appropriate permits, determinations, and/or approval for pad construction/expansions, which may also include Clean Water Act Section 404 permitting.
* Coordinate with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (COE), and the Local County Floodplain Administrator as needed to ensure proper approvals.
* When necessary, attend on-site meetings with government agencies.

Other Responsibilities
• Responsible for project management, including the development of requests for bid proposals, work orders and supervision of contractors.
• Optimize the permit application and preconstruction process.
• Promotes sustainable environmental practices within the company, including impacts on sensitive species and habitats.
• Availability to travel to stakeholder meetings and act as company representative.
• Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards, and is punctual to work and meetings.
• Must be solution oriented.

Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/engineering and/or technical discipline.
• 3+ years of relevant upstream oil & gas experience
• 3+ years of relevant environmental permitting and/or compliance experience
• Environmental permitting, program implementation, risk identification, and project management skills
• Excellent oral and written communications, teamwork, planning & organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, and various Environmental databases
• Project management skills with minimal oversight required.

Preferred Requirements:
• 3+ years in an environmental role at an upstream oil/gas operator.
