Genesis is hiring an Industrial conceptual Estimator for an engineering firm in Birmingham, Al. This Estimator will need to have chemical, paper mill or refinery experience. 

*Pay is dependent on experience, this site requires a pay amount to be logged- all salary requirements will be considered

Engineering Estimator
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Possess good math skills, able to read and correctly interpret blueprint and specification requirements for projects being estimated.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
  • Strong working knowledge of estimating software like MC 2 or WinEst
  • Working knowledge of programs such as Primavera (P6), Bluebeam, Synchro, Excel, and Word
  • Well-rounded base of knowledge in construction disciplines (emphasis on Mechanical and Structural)
  • 5-10 years previous industrial construction experience is required
  • Medium project experience ($20M+) is required
  • B.S. Degree – Construction Management or Engineering preferred
  • Field Construction experience desired (Craft Supervision, Field Construction Engineer)

 

Essential Job Duties
Able to travel away from office as necessary to visit projects and pre-bid meetings to understand site conditions/scope.

  • Review plans and specifications.
  • Provide accurate take-off.
  • Work with estimating team to build the estimate and pricing.
  • Develop preliminary schedule.
  • Works closely with Proposal Manager and Project Manager in obtaining information on projects and in preparing project presentations on company capabilities and experience.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and manufacturer’s representatives.
  • Prepares conceptual drawings and scopes of work for conceptual/budget proposals with minimal to no assistance from engineering and disseminates to others in the Estimating Team to develop cost estimate, proposal scope of work and proposal clarifications (including technical narrative and clarifications).
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a data base of equipment vendors and subcontractors.
  • Reviews preliminary project general conditions, construction equipment requirements and projected cost with project estimating team and develops final project general conditions for review with Manager of Estimating and/or Division Management.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Prepares and distributes cost reports on projects awarded to Divisional Accounting Staff for entering into division accounting system and to assigned Project Manager(s) and Project Superintendent(s) for project planning and Equipment/Subcontractor/material procurement.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications, and interfacing with supplier’s and manufacturer’s representatives. Maintains knowledge of current estimating systems by appropriate training and reviews new and revised estimating systems for future implementation and use.
  • Assist in maintaining existing estimating data bases, obtaining and tracking current commodity material cost, analysis and develop pricing trend charts for various materials.
  • Implements job “hand-off” meetings with Estimating Team and Project Construction Team, as required. Assist Manager of Estimating and Project Managers with final determination of successful subcontractors and major equipment vendors.
  • Maintain day to day contact with Project Construction Team for change order preparation and comparison of estimated cost to actual field cost. Discuss and review discrepancies, research and develop mitigation methods and implement with Estimating Team and Project Construction Team.
  • Enters quantity takeoffs into computer based estimating system(s) by on-screen take-off or by taking off materials and equipment on standardized quantity survey sheets and then manually entering into the estimating system(s).
  • Assists in taking prices from suppliers and subcontractors, evaluating scopes of work for completeness and pricing, provides information to project estimator for entering into computer cost summary and selection.
