Facilities Maintenance Worker
The Facilities Maintenance Worker (FMW) performs maintenance and repairs on all Spokane valley Fire Department (SVFD) facilities. The FMW is responsible for basic electrical, plumbing, mechanical maintenance, landscape maintenance, and the inspections and testing of equipment and buildings.

Examples of Responsibilities (See SVFD Website for Full List of Duties):
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety rules and regulations (i.e., Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA), WA Department of Labor & Industries).
- Repairs or coordinates needed maintenance to SVFD facilities. Performs highly skilled trades towards the upkeep, repair, construction, and inspections of facilities.
- Coordinates routine and long-range maintenance plans. Schedules the repair and servicing of District facilities required by safety and code compliance.
- Plan projects, estimate costs and materials, prioritize work, ensure compliance with codes and standards, and oversee assignments throughout project completion. Provide direction, assistance, and monitors the work of contracted services assigned to specific projects. Work with outside clients or vendors on obtaining bids for materials, equipment, and services.
- Assist with the District’s accreditation program, facility inspections, and participate in short-term and long-term planning.
- Performs routine inspections of various boilers, rooftop units (RTU’s) and air handling units (AHU’s). Ability to maintain Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Maintains office and fire station air environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls.
- Be familiar with SVFD controls settings, diagnostic, adjustment, and minor repairs. Limits of work are delineated within the applicable plumbing codes, standards, and laws.
Required Background Check and Drug Test must be passed for employment.
Required Occupational Qualifications: To be eligible to apply for this position the applicant must meet the following required occupational qualifications prior to the closure of applications and maintain them:
- Must have proof of eligibility for employment in the United States.
- Must be 18 years of prior to the closing of applications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to communicate the English clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Must be a non-user of any tobacco, products, including e-cigarettes/vape products.
- Must successfully pass SVFD medical and drug testing.
- The ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing.
- The Facility Worker is required to have an excellent working knowledge of facility repair techniques and maintenance procedures.
- Must possess adequate operational knowledge of equipment, tools, and vehicles used by SVFD.
- Position involves frequent bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching below and above shoulders, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Must successfully pass 12-month probationary period.
Desired Occupational Qualifications:
- Three or more years of work experience in facility maintenance
