Fermentation Scientist
Our client, a growing biotechnology company, are searching for a Fermentation Scientist to join their team. You will be carrying out new and on-going R&D projects around process development and optimisation. You will have an opportunity to make a real impact on a rapidly expanding company.
The Role
A successful candidate will be a subject matter expert in bacterial fermentation with proven experience in delivering R&D results. They are able to independently design and execute an experimental plan, gain insights through thorough analysis, and further those insights through relevant follow-up studies. They are able to draw from industry practices and new discoveries, applying fermentation principles and techniques to drive improvements in product and processes.
• To plan and execute Fermentation R&D experiments, perform troubleshooting and process optimisations in a scale down models with the aim of subsequent implementation at production scale.
• To communicate the progress of on-going Fermentation R&D projects, draft project reports, contribute to project meetings, and present R&D results in written and oral formats as appropriate.
• To support technology transfer projects from an R&D perspective.
• To record and identify all IP generated.
• To contribute to the day-to-day running and management of an R&D laboratory.
Experience Required
Qualifications & Training
• Degree in microbiology/biotechnology/bioprocess engineering/related field and several years of experience in relevant field.
Experience
• Strong experience in Bacterial Fermentation R&D (experience with anaerobes is ideal, but not essential)
• Proven track record in delivering R&D projects
• Expertise and practical experience in handling and operating benchtop bioreactors (practical knowledge of Electrolab benchtop bioreactors are desired, but not essential)
• Practical understanding of GLP and GMP
• Experience in food/supplement industry is desired, but not essential
Skills
• In-depth understanding of bacteria metabolism and physiology, and how to translate it into fermentation parameters.
• Ability to monitor fermentation processes, detect deviations, and troubleshoot issues.
• Excellent laboratory and process documentation.
• Effective communication with cross-functional teams and senior management.
• To record, format and analyse data using Excel and related software platforms; manage and archive data using collaborative platforms (e.g. SharePoint)
