We have a number of vacancies within our Field Operations and Sponsor Monitoring, and Removal Operations Branch in Darwin that contribute to managing and upholding the integrity of Australia's migration program. Duties and responsibilities Develop and maintain knowledge of relevant legislation and policies. Work independently with minimal direction, whilst providing technical expertise with accountability and integrity. This can include managing competing priorities, stakeholder management, contributing to reporting and executive briefings in addition to leading administrative and operational components of the position. Supervising a team of officers including setting and managing the day-to-day priorities and tasks of your team. Contribute to strategic planning and direction, including resource management. Identifying and engaging with risk, and undertaking effective risk management in accordance with the Department's established risk management framework. Additional information All positions are based in Darwin, Northern Territory and require a physical presence, out-posting and remote work are not available for these positions. Relocation assistance will be considered for interstate candidates willing to relocate to Darwin. These positions may be subject to medical, psychometric and fitness testing. Some positions across the teams are designated positions and will require you to meet all Border Force Officer essential qualifications. Some positions may further require you to: Complete Operational Safety Training and be willing to carry and use personal defence equipment, including a firearm, if required Obtain and maintain a Working with Vulnerable People Check and/or Working with Children Check Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Driver's Licence Ability to obtain and maintain and Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) Additional role specific information Removal Operations Removal Operations encompasses a range of duties and activities that include the safe and lawful removal of unlawful non-citizens (UNCs) from Australia under the Migration Act 1958 (the Migration Act). A Removal Officer uses their detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, powers, and departmental policies to ensure that removals are undertaken lawfully and are compliant with duty of care requirements and international standards. Officers work in close collaboration with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and execute removal plans, including utilisation of well-developed interpersonal skills that allow them to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders and build relationships that support the removal process. Field Operations Field Operations conduct a range of intelligence informed and risk-based operations and activities that improve the level of compliance with immigration laws. They locate and detain unlawful non-citizens who are identified as a risk to the safety of the community or who pose a threat to the integrity of Australia's visa system. Field Operations utilise departmental systems and technology to conduct compliance assessments and employ a range of legislated powers to prevent, detect, deter and enforce breaches of immigration law. They often educate employers and visa sponsors to understand their obligations under the Migration Act and promote compliance with these requirements through employer awareness visits and targeted compliance activities. Sponsor Monitoring The Sponsor Monitoring Unit applies a nationally consistent, intelligence-led, risk-based approach to detect, deter and disrupt exploitation of Australia's migration programs and its migrant workers, and ensures compliance with the requirements set out in the Migration Act 1958 and the Migration Regulations 1994 within Australia's border. Specifically, the Sponsor Monitoring Unit undertakes monitoring, compliance and administrative treatments for breaches of sponsorship obligations by 482, 494 and other 400 series approved sponsors, as well as undertaking pre-decision verification checks at the request of Departmental visa delivery areas to inform visa decision making.
