The Electrical & Controls Field Service Manager will lead a team of Field Service Engineers focused on the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of Electrical & Industrial Automation systems, particularly Medium Voltage power systems. Responsibilities include managing daily operations, allocating resources, and ensuring high standards of service delivery, safety, and efficiency across projects. The manager will provide technical guidance, ensuring effective maintenance and troubleshooting of medium voltage systems, such as MV switchgear, generators, and breakers, with low voltage experience being a plus. This position requires travel throughout the U.S. and may involve offshore or international assignments. Strong coordination skills for field operations in remote locations with limited resources are essential. Additionally, the manager will oversee testing and commissioning of new equipment in shop settings when not traveling.

Field Service Manager Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee new equipment startups, including electrical, instrumentation, automation I/O checks, cold and hot testing. Some mechanical assembly may be required in unique situations.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to the team in troubleshooting system issues, ensuring repairs and maintenance are completed efficiently to minimize downtime for customers.
  • Oversee testing and racking of MV breakers for various systems, ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical information to both the team and customers, helping manage controls, instrumentation, and electrical portions of projects. Knowledge of VFD systems is a plus.
  • Provide advanced technical assistance and mentorship to both customers and field service engineers, whether in person, over the phone, or via email.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships, identifying opportunities for ongoing service contracts and future business.
  • Manage and allocate resources for emergency service calls, ensuring availability for critical situations, while also participating in an on-call rotation as needed.
  • Monitor team performance and provide training or professional development to enhance technical skills and ensure quality service.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation and customer satisfaction.


Field Service Manager Position Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 7–10 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role overseeing teams in the field of electrical and controls systems, preferably in medium voltage power systems.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficient with PLCs, process controllers, instruments, and other electrical devices. Hands-on experience with medium voltage systems and gear, with the ability to troubleshoot and service systems up to 15kV.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team of field service engineers, ensuring quality service and technical excellence in high-pressure environments. Experience in recruiting, hiring, and building a high-performing team of field engineers, along with providing ongoing training and coaching for both new hires and existing staff.
  • Up-to-date Knowledge: Strong familiarity with modern technologies related to electrical systems, controls, and instrumentation, with a willingness to adopt and implement new technologies.
  • Industry Standards: Thorough knowledge of industrial codes and standards, including electrical and controls/instrumentation codes.
  • Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to identify best practices and recommend technical solutions for electrical systems, controls/instrumentation, PLCs, VFDs, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Self-Starter: Able to take initiative and work independently when needed, while also providing strong leadership and oversight for a team.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, able to convey technical information clearly and effectively to customers, colleagues, and management through various channels (in person, phone, email).
  • Stress Management: Ability to handle high-stress environments and work safely and efficiently in loud, physically demanding conditions.
  • Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of electrical schematics and the ability to work with various electrical testing equipment (oscilloscopes, process meters, hi-pots, etc.).
  • Mechanical Skills: Proficient with mechanical tasks and capable of using various hand tools and equipment in the field.
  • Computer Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for reporting, communication, and project management.
