Food Safety Specialist-RES007317Employment Type:SGEU Term 9 months or moreLocation(s):SK-Rgna-ReginaMinistry:001 AgricultureSalary Range:$41.174 - $51.598HourlyGrade:SGEU.12.TheSaskatchewanMinistryofAgriculture’s Livestock Branch seeksanenergetic, self-motivatedandinnovativeindividual to join our team.As the Food Safety Specialist, you will: Be responsible for the management of the domestic meat inspection program including licensing, auditing domestic meat plants (slaughter and processing) and contract management.Have an understanding of the food and meat regulatory environments in Saskatchewan and Canada.Performpolicyanalysison the meat and food sector in Saskatchewan and Canada including competitive,regulatoryand food safetyissues,which may impact the Saskatchewan food industry's economic viability and development.Anticipate, identify and monitor existing and emerging safety andfoodpolicyissues and the impact on the Saskatchewan food industry.Identifyappropriatepolicies,policymodificationsandprogramming that may be pursued by the Ministry to advance the food sector in Saskatchewan.Work closely with industry groups, agri-food businesses and food processors to understand the sector.Engage with other branches within the Ministry, other provincial Ministries and federal-provincial and territorial partners on aspects of meat and food safety and policy. The Ideal Candidate will have: Knowledge of food safety and meat science;Understanding of the Canadian and Saskatchewan food processing industry and its operational functions and activities with respect to production, marketing, market and product development, transportation and storage;Understanding of food and meat science and the ability to summarize and explain issues and related analysis both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences;Ability to manage service delivery contracts;Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholder groups; andStrong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities. Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through: Completion of an undergraduate degree, in Food Science, complemented by industry experience; or Completion of M.Sc.degreein FoodScience,withspecializationinfoodchemistry,foodmicrobiologyand/orfoodprocessing.
