This role will be based in Busan, South Korea for the duration of the project.Serve as the Discipline Lead for Cryogenic Cargo Handling System scopes for the plan approval of IGC-compliant gas carriers (LNGCs and/or VLGCs) on behalf of the charterer/shipowner. Lead and coordinate the plan review process of cargo handling systems drawings/documents, coordinate review activities by supplementary discipline engineers, and QC their work. Work together with other discipline leads on multidisciplinary scopes. Interface with the charterer/shipowner, the nominated shipyard, Class Society and the newbuild site supervision team. Provide technical expertise and guidance on the subject matter to stakeholders through all stages of the design and construction process Take an active role in the evaluation and approval of designs, plans, drawings, and technical specifications for compliance with the newbuild specification and associated rules, regulations, and guidelines Participate in risk assessment activities related to the design of the subject class of gas carriers Identify and address potential design issues, recommending improvements and solutions. Ensure that all design changes and updates are thoroughly reviewed and documented. Lead and/or participate in design review discussions with various stakeholders, including equipment/technology suppliers as appropriate in support of the plan review process and acting always in Longitude and our client’s best interests Stay up-to-date with advancements in gas carrier technologies and best practices for the design, construction, and operation of gas carriers. The ability and willingness to travel as required, and to be based in South Korea for the duration of the project. The role is based in Busan, South Korea and the candidate should have the right to live and work in South Korea with flexibility in working hours with the ability and willingness to travel as required. What we are looking for. Excellent written/verbal business and technical English, and strong computer skills are a basic requirement. In addition, the ideal candidate will have at least two of the following sets of qualifications: Experience as a lead plan approval engineer / plan approval manager for at least one gas carrier project on behalf of a Class Society, a Ship Owner/Manager, a Charterer, or a consultancy managing such projects. A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, 8 years of experience in the design of tankships (or 5 years if gas carriers) 2+ years of experience serving as technical interface / point of contact with a shipyard [on behalf of ship owner/manager or charterer] during the design review phase of a shipbuilding contract for a gas carrier (or 5+ years if for other types of tankers) 2+ years of experience serving as cargo engineer on a fully-refrigerated gas carrier (LNGC or VLGC) 3+ years of experience serving as technical lead on cryogenic cargo systems for LNGCs or VLGCs. Related experience, e.g., with newbuilding site supervision, experience in the repair and upgrade of gas carriers on behalf of the owner/manager or shipyard, will be considered favorably.
