Gas Turbine R&D - Turbine Heat Transfer Engineer

Canwe energize society and fight climate change at the same time? AtSiemens Energy, we can. Our technology is key, but our people make thedifference. Brilliant minds innovate. They connect, create, and keep us ontrack towards changing the world’s energy systems. Their spirit fuels ourmission. Energy,Siemens Limited India is seeking a responsible, professional, andself-motivated individual to join the Gas Turbine R&D, Gurgaon (India) as“Turbine Heat Transfer Engineer”. This position provides an excitingopportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, global product development &service environment.Theheat transfer engineer is responsible for the thermal design and prediction ofcomponent material temperatures, for components, operating in the hot gas flowpath of Turbine section, such as Blades, Vanes/Nozzles, Heat Shields, but alsoCasing & Rotor components. The tasks range from design & analysis ofnew components, upgrade of existing components, prediction of componentperformance under new boundary conditions towards customer support andresolving non-conformance reports from manufacturing. We use various inhouse& commercial 1D,2D,3D & CFD tools to design & perform thermalanalysis on these components.Inthe project work, we often work in close collaboration with cross functionalteams located locally & globally. You are taking responsibility for yourown work within the project and must have an understanding about the adjacentdisciplines work, as well as, for the gas turbine as a system and yourcomponent’s function within the system.Thetasks can include coming up with conceptual design, failure mode evaluation, detailed thermal analysis, report writing and defending key technical reviews.Deep knowledge of heat transfer & fluid mechanics fundamentals, thermalanalyses and manufacturing process requirements are essential. In addition tothis, engineer needs to support developmental and testing aspects (post finaldesign review) for validation of the product. It is expected to providetechnical advice about the suitability of developed design and its applicationacross multiple gas turbine frames. Job requires regular interaction withglobal teams hence engineer should have persuasive communication skills andcross-cultural knowledge.oriented: Heat transfer and cooling design and analysis of gas turbine parts (rotating or stationary or system). Heat transfer and flow analysis using inhouse & commercial 1D,2D,3D & CFD codes e.g., CFX, Star CCM+. Able to understand the physics, apply relevant assumptions, interpret results & perform basic hand calculations in fluid mechanics & heat transfer discipline. Thermal modelling using flow network approach with pressure loss and heat transfer correlations. Able to apply boundary conditions to a FE solver (NX- Simcenter/ NASTRAN, ANSYS, ABAQUS) for the calculations of material temperature. Able to understand the product function, design requirements and design principles. Be a point of contact, speaking partner and provide expertise regarding hot gas path heat transfer related topics in a project. Work with project lead to understand the project requirements, find solutions to design challenges, and deliver results within agreed timeline & quality. We don’t need superheroes, just super minds: Mechanical engineer with an MTech in Mechanical engineering (major- Fluid & Thermal Science) with a focus on fluid mechanics, heat transfer & thermodynamics. Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in thermal analysis and design of cooled gas turbine components. Experience in utilizing heat transfer and cooling design engineering skills to analyze technical requirements and applying appropriate skill set to design hot gas path, Casing & Rotor turbine components. Ability to analyze/create thermal boundary conditions and perform Flow & Heat Transfer engineering calculations both for analytical, flow network, correlation based, and CFD & Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT) based tasks. Finite element analysis & ability to review the results. Good Familiarity with FE codes like ANSYS or general-purpose FEA tool. Heat Transfer-design fundamentals & problem-solving skills (Gas Turbine Component, System level) Basic understanding of Mechanical integrity (Strength, Fatigue, Creep, Fracture) Turbomachinery Aerodynamics, and manufacturing aspects for gas turbine blading. Experience using Pro / E, NX (Uni-graphics) or other similar solid modeling CAD software for visualization of cooling channel/scheme lay out of components or engine assembly is a merit. Experience in Providing technical support to other functional areas is a merit. Exposure to SAP and Teamcenter PLM is a merit. Programming skills like Python, NX Open.Personality Strong interpersonal skill i.e., collaborator, quick learner, energetic, imaginative, innovative, ability to adapt quickly & effectively etc. Align with Organization Purpose, Values & Behavior & adhere to business compliance guidelines.
