Job Description
Overview
The Geographic Information System Analyst I provides entry-level analysis, programming, and testing to support the City's Geographic Information System (GIS).
Essential Functions
1
Analyzes problems involving geographic information system databases and proposes solution; troubleshoots both GIS and non-GIS technical issues that City staff and public encounters with City systems.

Enters data into database fields to capture geographic information relating to water and wastewater pipes, streets, sanitation routes, storm water infrastructure, storm water drainage topography, surface and subsurface hydrologic models, housing, traffic control systems, geographic systems, land records management; contours or analyzes surfaces and calculates the drainage area for city projects and service requests.

Provides programming, coding, testing, and analysis to support the continual development and refinement of the City's geographic information systems.

Prepares technical and operational reports relative to geographical information models and problems.

Provides guidance to drafters and technicians on projects.

Maintain floodplain needs inventory and coordinate databases.

Prepare mailing lists for flood insurance parcels protected by levee system, and areas to be affected in case of dam breaches

Maintain the bond programs databases and shapefiles; creates and updates the bond program projects; coordinates bond projects information with other departments and monitors status of projects.

Create advanced reports as required based on GIS databases.

Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of graphics and mapping techniques and procedures.

Knowledge of GIS applications for mapping, notification, and zoning uses.

Knowledge of analytics and methods of analysis.

Knowledge of systems analysis techniques and relational database systems.

Knowledge of computer programming and ability to use geographic information software.

Knowledge of various software for use in graphics and mapping projects.

Knowledge of City of Dallas zoning ordinances.

Ability to make field observations.

Ability to operate reproduction equipment.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing

Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Associate degree in GIS, Geography, Spatial Science, or Computer science field.
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience in GIS mapping/graphics services using ArcGIS for Desktop Basic, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server and/or ArcGIS Online.
EQUIVALENCIES:
High school diploma or GED plus four (4) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
Bachelor's degree or higher in a specified field will meet the education and experience requirements.
Salary Range
$25.87 - $30.04
