Geotechnical Engineer
Roles and responsibilities The Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing all geotechnical engineering activities for a rail project. This role involves validating the design provided by the contractor, ensuring compliance with geotechnical standards, and providing support during the construction supervision phase. The Geotechnical Engineer will work closely with various departments to ensure the successful execution of the project, particularly focusing on underground railway stations and major transportation projects. Roles And Responsibilities Validate the geotechnical design provided by the contractor, ensuring compliance with project requirements and geotechnical standards. Oversee site investigations and geotechnical surveys to gather data on soil, rock, and groundwater conditions. Conduct geotechnical analysis and provide recommendations for foundation design, slope stability, and ground improvement techniques. Identify and mitigate geotechnical risks, providing advice on potential opportunities and threats. Provide regular progress reports to the client and internal stakeholders, highlighting any geotechnical risks and opportunities. Ensure the provision of all necessary geotechnical data to the Contract Administration Senior Manager. Provide technical support during the construction supervision phase, addressing any geotechnical issues that arise. Work closely with the required departments to ensure compliance with any legal, financial, and corporate protocols. Prepare and deliver geotechnical presentations as required. Drive progression via coordination meetings, ensuring all geotechnical obligations are met. Review and approve geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications submitted by the D&B contractor. Monitor and evaluate the performance of geotechnical works during construction, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards. Liaise with external consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with geotechnical requirements. Conduct site visits and inspections to assess ground conditions and verify the implementation of geotechnical recommendations. Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and project team members on geotechnical matters. Qualifications And Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred. Professional certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent are highly desirable. Desired candidate profile Minimum of 10 – 15+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably in underground railway stations or major transportation projects. In-depth knowledge of geotechnical principles, construction contracts, and industry standards. Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple geotechnical aspects and stakeholders effectively. Prior experience in a large transportation/rail or similar project will be a requirement. Preferred Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate geotechnical risks specific to underground railway stations and major transportation projects. High level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in geotechnical assessments and validations. Proven leadership skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team in a high-pressure environment. Experience in managing complex projects, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex geotechnical information clearly and concisely to stakeholders at all levels.
