Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing Transportation and Infrastructure division. In this role, you will be responsible for sampling, inspecting, testing, and condition services of construction materials that are either existing or under construction at various Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) facilities. Work schedule varies according to job assignments and/or contractors schedule. Position may require night work, weekends, and some holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide quality inspection services to ensure conformance to project specifications and applicable codes
  • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) testing in accordance with contract specifications using a nuclear density gauge
  • Ensure that the drilling firm contracted by the Authority carries out its work in accordance with contract specification
  • Inform the Authority of any unsafe condition discovered at any time during the course of the work
  • Ability to document daily inspections and various other reports.
  • Coordinate with project team members, engineers, and contractors to address and resolve any issues that arise during construction.
  • Review and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate implementation on-site.
  • Attend meetings and conferences as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • 2+ years of relevant experience
    • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to various project sites within New York Metro Area.
    • Certifications/Trainings:
      • Must meet the training requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120 (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response).
      • Nuclear Gauge Safety Training certification
      • Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) in Geotechnical Engineering Technology Level 1 for earthworks
      • Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) in Geotechnical Engineering Technology Level 2
  • :
    • Bachelors degree in Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Geological Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering
