Global Systems Safety Engineer

Location: Colorado Springs, CO
Security Clearance: Must have a current Secret clearance, with a strong preference for candidates who can obtain a Top Secret (TS) clearance.
Travel: Some travel required

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Principal Systems Engineer with a strong background in System and Software Safety. This position will focus on developing, integrating, and analyzing system safety requirements to ensure the highest safety standards for engineering systems supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). The candidate should have advanced experience in applying engineering principles to eliminate or control hazards within system design.

Required Qualifications

• Education & Experience:
  • Advanced degree with 3+ years of experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience, OR equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience in system engineering and software systems engineering, specifically in developing new systems and integrating existing ones.
• Proven ability to analyze design features and apply engineering principles to meet safety criteria and eliminate hazards in systems.
• Strong knowledge of MIL-STD-882E and system safety protocols.
• Experience developing safety documentation, including SARs, SRAs, and SSPPs, to meet customer and testing requirements.
• Familiarity with hazard identification and participation in System Safety Working Groups.
• Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) to clearly present technical findings and solutions.
• Experience supporting engineering teams with safety guidance and developing program safety plans.
• Ability to analyze high-level needs and refine them into a cohesive set of hardware and software requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide integration and safety engineering support, collaborating with team members and management to deliver high-quality products on time.
• Analyze, develop, and refine system safety requirements, ensuring compliance with program specifications.
• Generate responsible sections of capability specifications and review technical products to maintain accuracy and clarity.
• Act as a technical interface with MDA counterparts as needed, providing solutions to complex technical challenges.
• Train less experienced personnel in Systems Engineering and safety techniques.

Desired Qualifications

• Active Top Secret (TS) clearance.
• Experience interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, representing the organization in technical discussions.
