Head of Network Engineering

Head of Network Solutions, Design & Engineering Harrington Starr is delighted to be partnering with a global leader in the financial services sector. We are seeking an experienced Network Engineering Leader with a proven track record of managing large, global teams (15+ members). While this is not a hands-on role, the ideal candidate will possess exceptional technical expertise in areas such as LAN & WAN connectivity, customer and market connectivity (including low latency and multicast technologies), application network connectivity, and a foundational understanding of automation and observability frameworks. Key details Basic salary range: £150,000 - 180,000 + Benefits + Bonus Hybrid: 3 days in office (Canary Wharf) Access to large scale technology investment across the board Responsibilities Define technical roadmaps, policies, standards, engineering procedures, and blueprints for network products and environments. Develop automation and observability frameworks to enhance the delivery and management of network solutions. Plan and oversee the technical delivery of large-scale transformation projects, ensuring up-to-date and supportable network environments. Collaborate with internal and external teams to manage procurement processes for network equipment and solutions. Lead and mentor a team of engineers, including performance reviews, training plans, and professional development. Engage with external vendors to align solutions with strategic requirements and ensure suitability for business needs. Act as a technical advisor to senior stakeholders, raising awareness of network solutions and aligning them with organisational objectives. Provide technical governance over network designs and related technical teams. Drive continuous improvement in both technology and processes within and beyond the team. What you’ll need Extensive leadership experience with a strong technical background in delivering global network services. Expertise in network architecture, engineering, and automation across physical, virtual, and cloud environments. Familiarity with product and service delivery models under Agile and Site Reliability Engineering principles is advantageous. Proven experience with large-scale technology programmes, acting as a sponsor for technical delivery. Background in managing large enterprise or service provider network environments on a global scale. Skilled in resource and budget planning and management, alongside experience in direct and matrix leadership. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including engagement at C-level. Ability to bridge technical and business perspectives effectively through collaboration and teamwork.
