Job Summary: The Heavy Civil Construction Project Manager will oversee the planning, execution, and successful completion of heavy civil projects, including highways, bridges, earthwork, and utilities, from initial bid to project closeout. This role requires strong project management skills, technical expertise in heavy civil construction, and the ability to coordinate closely with clients, general contractors, and internal teams to ensure each project’s success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning & Scheduling: Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring milestones and deadlines are met. Oversee project planning to include scope, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Budget Management: Monitor and control project budgets, preparing regular cost reports and making adjustments as necessary to remain within financial targets.
- Subcontractor and Vendor Coordination: Manage subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring adherence to project specifications, schedules, and quality standards.
- Client & Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary contact for clients and general contractors, providing regular project updates and addressing any concerns or requirements.
- Field Management: Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, ensure compliance with project plans, safety protocols, and troubleshoot potential issues.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage potential project risks, implementing proactive measures to minimize impact and facilitate smooth operations.
- Quality Assurance: Enforce quality control standards and conduct inspections to ensure that all work meets project specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records, including schedules, budgets, change orders, and daily progress reports.
- Leadership: Mentor and guide on-site teams, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with at least 3 years in a project management role. Experience with a civil subcontractor is .
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field , or equivalent relevant experience.
- Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of heavy civil construction processes, including earthwork, utilities, grading, and concrete work.
- Project Management Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to make data-driven decisions.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, teams, and subcontractors.
- Certifications: PMP or equivalent project management certification is a plus; OSHA 30 certification required.
