Heavy Equipment Mechanic - Military Veterans

MILITARY VETERANS The non-exempt job classification is covered under The McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA).  Service employees are compensated per the prevailing wage rates and fringe benefits that are set by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Wage and Hour Division's WDs 29 CFR Part 541 and 29 CFR 4.163(f). Job SummaryThe Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools. This worker operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles, and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency. The mechanic welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling, and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines. (SCA 23430) Essential Functions: ·      Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools·      Identify deficiencies and required maintenance actions and associated man-hours required from the MAC in the applicable TM by conducting technical inspections IAW applicable TMs on specialized equipment ·      Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles, and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency ·      Stop work and notify government immediately when vehicle/equipment requires repairs beyond the MEL·      Welds broken parts and structural members·      May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment·      May repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling, and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines·      Preventative maintenance checks and services·      Take oil samples IAW Army Oil Analysis Program (AOAP) procedure; prepare and post required documentation for AOAP; prepare oil samples for shipment·      Perform warehousing duties IAW with established procedures, subject to spot-check in progress and general review of complete work·      Perform other duties as assigned in association with established Management and Contract Compliance Plan, and workload requirements, etc.·      Adhere to PTi quality, safety, and environmental standards Working Conditions and Physical Demands·      May be required to attend the Government provided Section 608/609 certification training ·      Subject to mandatory drug testing as required ·      May be required to handle equipment/supplies weighing up to 50 pounds individually and occasionally items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance·      Able to exert moderate physical effort in the loading, unloading, and arranging of equipment/supplies as applicable to position.·      Ability to work inside and/or outside in dirty and dusty environments, and occasionally be exposed to hot, cold, damp, and drafty weather conditions while handling equipment/supplies·      Able to perform work on hard or uneven surfaces·      May operate equipment on and off installation on public roads at highway speeds  QualificationsSkills and Experience: ·      Two years’ experience inspecting and troubleshooting mechanical and electronic components on a wide variety of heavy-duty military vehicles using computerized diagnostic equipment, and repairing, cleaning, replacing defective parts of components and systems·      Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite·      Skilled in planning, controlling, executing, multi-tasking and being responsible for the successful completion of work requirements·      Ability to effectively read and write in English, comprehend written instructions, perform common mathematical tasks, and communicate effectivelyCertificate, License, Registration, etc.: ·      Shall possess a certificate from a Vocational Technical School for vehicle or equipment mechanic, or have graduated from any Vehicle, Equipment, or Power Generation Mechanic Advanced Individual Training (AIT) e.g., 91 Series Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) or other DOD equivalent training.·      Valid driver’s U.S. State issued Class A CDL ·      US Citizen·      Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance applicable to the position and/or military Common Access Card (CAC) within 30 days if required·      Completion of contractual and company mandated trainings applicable to position  Education·      Minimum high school diploma or GED Equipment Requirement·      Must provide hand tools and toolbox ·      Itemized tool list attached Preferred Qualifications·      Prior Military This job description is meant to be a guide.  It is not intended to limit duties in which a teammate may be required to perform.  This job description may be changed at the discretion of the company. PTi maintains a drug-free workplace and performs pre-employment and random substance abuse testing and background verification checks.
