Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and/or perform substation physical electrical design, including general arrangement, plans & specifications, grounding, raceway, etc. for transmission voltage systems
  • Lead and/or perform protection & controls design, including relay one-lines, metering, SCADA, communications, security, etc
  • Lead and/or perform studies & calculations, including grounding, bus spans, shielding, etc
  • Develop and/or review turnkey EPC scope of work and specifications
  • Ensure design compliance with Large Generator Interconnection Agreements and Power Purchase Agreements
  • Comprehensive understanding of the utility grid (power & transmission) system and the principles involved in high voltage substation engineering
  • Comprehensive understanding of industry standards, including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE/ANSI and their application to projects
  • Provide full life cycle project support, including initial project feasibility, preliminary design, bidding/contracting, design, permitting, construction, commissioning and operation

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Coordinate & manage consultant/contractor design & RFIs. Supervise High Voltage Electrical Designers and Engineers.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited university
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Minimum eight (8) years relevant work experience
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with application of NFPA 70 (NEC)
  • Ability to perform electrical studies using ETAP software (or equal)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable presenting to and interacting with consultants, authorities with jurisdiction, and customers
  • Experience with design of high voltage substations
  • Ability to obtain out-of-state PE license(s)

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

Work is performed in the office and in the field. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist and lift up to 20 pounds. May be exposed to weather elements when in the field. Limited out of town travel may be required.
