Job Summary
The Installation Team Supervisor is responsible for helping to build and maintain a cohesive team of installation professionals that successfully achieve their goals by understanding and meeting client needs in a manner consistent with our customer satisfaction goals and the professional standards of the manufacturers we represent. The Supervisor ensures the team works closely with the sales, engineering, and service teams to make sure the client expectations are met, and the projects are run efficiently and professionally. The Installation Supervisor is a critical member of the Seaman’s supervisory team and will report to the Installation Manager. He/she utilizes effective listening and communications and actively works to maintain strong and supportive relationships with the field personnel and other leaders in the company. The supervisor works diligently to understand the impact his/her team has on other departments’ operations and works to improve the processes within the business. The supervisor is a professional leader and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude and takes personal ownership of problems and challenges.
Responsibilities
Customer Satisfaction
- Works to ensure the installation personnel maintain professional customer skills in terms of courtesy, understanding customer expectations, friendliness, and professional appearance and leaving customer premises cleaner than they found it.
- Ensures technicians thoroughly explain to the customers the installation process performed and that the customer agrees and is trained in its operation.
- May be required to perform final walkthrough with end user on larger projects, ensuring customer is completely satisfied.
- Assists with ensuring the accuracy of billing and related documentation of hours, parts used, warranty issues and other components. Hold the field staff accountable. Train and retrain.
- Whenever appropriate, personally get involved in customer problem situations and through effective communication skills, resolves the difficulty resulting in client satisfaction.
- If a situation with a client cannot be resolved the supervisor will immediately enlist the assistance of the installation manager.
- Continually coaches the installation team on superior customer interaction skills. Ensures the entire department demonstrates a noticeable sense of urgency in all customer activity as well as a compassionate concern for understanding the client’s needs.
Profitability and Asset Management
- Helps to achieve all goals associated with the installation department’s contribution to the business gross margins.
- Assist project managers with weekly labor scheduling.
- Work with the installation manager with finding and hiring labor as needed.
- Has and works a plan to improve any productivity deficiencies.
- Continually coaches the installation team on superior and efficient installation skills.
- As a permanent member of the safety committee the supervisor will help track and facilitate all necessary Safety Training with the installation technicians while promoting safe work habits.
- Be involved with warranty repairs when appropriate. Perform a site evaluation on any repairs involving the re-engineering of a system.
- Helps in ensuring all technicians maintain adequate truck inventory to maximize timely completion of commitments and optimize parts investment.
- Meet inspectors for final inspections when necessary.
- Address technician mistakes as a learning experience.
- Abide by the company policy in all situations unless otherwise directed by the installation manager.
- Address discrepancies regarding timecard and timesheet hours with the installation manager.
Personal Development
- Observes installation personnel performance and provides feedback and coaching that result in improved performance.
- Helps to ensure the entire installation team is a cohesive and cooperative group who enjoy their work and are motivated to make Seaman’s the company of choice.
Leadership Team Contributor
- Actively seeks feedback from other departments on how installation performance can be improved to the advantage of the entire company.
- Utilizes strong interpersonal skills and openly deals with peers to positively resolve interdepartmental roadblocks and problems.
- Assists Installation Manager with semiannual reviews.
- Is willing and able to identify business problems and make recommendations for improvement.
- Is viewed by the management group as a team player.
- Shares accountability for key company goals and looks for ways the installation organization can support their attainment.
- Inform the installation manager and human resources of all injuries involving field personnel immediately.
Self Development
- Develops and actively manages own personal development plan, reviews with, and seeks input from the installation manager, and periodically shares progress.
- Actively participates in all company training sessions to personally grow in all key knowledge areas.
- Seeks and takes advantage of external training and development courses and sessions that broaden leadership and technical skills.
Job Qualifications
- Must have valid Michigan drivers’ license, good driving record (our insurance must accept you)
- High school diploma or GED .
- Read and write English.
- Write legibly.
- Read a tape measure, perform basic math skills: (Add, Subtract, Fractions, Calculate sales tax)
- Paperwork filled out properly daily.
- Basic knowledge of computer operation.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures.
- Be able to wear all P.P.E’s when applicable (steel toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, hard hat, etc.)
- Tolerate working at heights off a ladder or scaffold, on roofs, aerial lifts, etc.
- Perform heavy physical labor during adverse weather conditions.
- Maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Be available to work any time of the day to take care of your customers. (Before 8:00 am and after 5:00 pm during the week, anytime on weekends, and on holidays)
- Participate in annual required safety training.
- Continuing education is expected (see Self-Development).
- Basic knowledge of duct and pipe sizing.
- Proficient in blueprint reading.
- Ten or more years of experience in the commercial/industrial Mechanical/HVAC industry
- Work independently and be self-motivated.
- Present professional, positive, and helpful attitude at all times when interacting with customers and co-workers.
- Lift 50 lbs. frequently and 100+ lbs. with assistance.
- Climbing (ladders, stairs, etc. and frequently with tools or equipment in hand)
- Bending, stooping, twisting, and squatting
- Extended periods of walking
- Regular exposure to weather conditions
- Operating a motor vehicle, lifts, forklifts, etc.
- Owning and operating power or hand tools-from floor to above head (drilling often over your head and/or awkward positions)
- Exposure to potentially harmful chemicals or materials with proper P.P.E’s.
