ICSR Engineer (Instrumentation, Control Systems, and Reliability)

Position Overview:

The ICSR Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability improvement of instrumentation and control systems on an FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading) vessel for an Oil & Gas Operator offshore West Africa. The role requires a deep understanding of control systems, instrumentation, and reliability engineering to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the FPSO's process and safety systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instrumentation & Control Systems Management:
    • Oversee the installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of all instrumentation and control systems on the FPSO.
    • Ensure all control systems are functioning correctly, including PLCs, DCS, ESD systems, fire and gas systems, and other automation systems.
    • Work closely with the operations team to ensure that control systems are optimized for safe and efficient production.
  • Reliability Engineering:
    • Develop and implement reliability programs aimed at reducing downtime and improving the performance of instrumentation and control systems.
    • Conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions to enhance system reliability.
    • Utilize reliability engineering tools and techniques, such as FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), to identify potential risks and mitigate them.
  • System Upgrades & Modifications:
    • Support the planning and execution of control system upgrades, modifications, and expansions.
    • Ensure all modifications comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
    • Review and approve engineering design changes related to instrumentation and control systems.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure all instrumentation and control systems are compliant with relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.
    • Participate in safety reviews, HAZOPs, and risk assessments to ensure control systems contribute to the overall safety of the FPSO.
    • Implement and monitor safety instrumented systems (SIS) in accordance with IEC 61511 standards.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance, calibration, and testing activities related to instrumentation and control systems.
    • Prepare and submit regular reports on system performance, reliability metrics, and maintenance activities.
    • Ensure that all technical documentation, including P&IDs, control narratives, and loop diagrams, are kept current.
  • Training & Support:
    • Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance personnel on the proper use and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems.
    • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintenance strategies.
  • Vendor & Contractor Management:
    • Liaise with equipment vendors and contractors to ensure timely delivery of services and compliance with technical specifications.
    • Oversee contractor work on instrumentation and control systems, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in instrumentation and control systems engineering, with a focus on offshore oil and gas operations, particularly FPSOs.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, SIS, and other relevant control systems technologies.
  • Experience with reliability engineering principles and practices, including predictive and preventive maintenance.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as IEC 61508/61511, API, and ISO.
  • Proficient in using engineering software and tools for control systems and reliability analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
