Job Description

SUMMARY: The Industrial Controls Technician is responsible for electrical maintenance support to and improvement of The Electric Materials Company facility. These responsibilities include assessing resource requirements and optimizing plant critical operational systems, and support to installation, implementation, and maintenance functions throughout the lifecycle of plant infrastructure and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to advise and assist electricians during equipment installations and periodic maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are essential to support timely repairs of unexpected and/or major equipment breakdowns.
  • Assists with documenting startup processes and operation of controls for new production equipment.
  • Able to sketch new designs or redline existing electrical drawings to support new equipment installations or improvements to existing equipment.
  • Supports implementation of facility expansion, layout changes, various systems, and quality controls.
  • Supports development and updates of equipment lock out/tag out procedures.
  • Effectively support electrical controls installs and maintenance to include PLC and HMI programming edits as needed.
  • Current systems on site are primarily ladder logic based but familiarity with other PLC programming is a plus.
  • Develops and improves electrical maintenance plans to support preventative maintenance and periodic maintenance shutdowns.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant regulations, electrical codes, and health and safety standards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate degree in electrical or industrial engineering technology (or a related discipline); at least 3 years related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

MATHEMATICAL and/or COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to apply basic math and measurements to practical situations. Knowledge of computer operation and related software required, to include computer aided drafting (CAD) software applications and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with programmable logic controller (PLC) applications, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Familiarity with automation of production machine cells.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
