Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Systems Manager, the Automated Equipment Technician is responsible for maintaining the functionality and efficiency of automated equipment within a fully automated Distribution Center. This role involves diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical issues, implementing preventative maintenance plans, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The technician will directly contribute to the operation and improvement of Materials Handling Equipment (MHE).
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues in automated equipment.
Perform testing, replacement, or repair of electrical systems, including both single-phase and three-phase systems up to 600 volts, AC/DC motors, and various components such as power supplies, frequency drives, and transformers.
Conduct routine maintenance and modifications on MHE systems.
Preventative Maintenance:
Develop and implement effective preventative maintenance plans for all facility equipment.
Manage inventory of spare parts using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Coordination and Communication:
Keep management informed of critical issues and coordinate repairs with external professional maintenance services when necessary.
Work with vendors on equipment specifications and design improvements.
Staff Supervision:
Direct, supervise, and assist in the development of a team of Maintenance Support Specialists.
Facilitate training and ensure knowledge transfer within the team.
Compliance and Documentation:
Ensure compliance with all division, corporate, and regulatory requirements.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC logic.
Software and Hardware Proficiency:
Install and set up computer hardware, including hard drives, RAM, and network cards.
Utilize software tools such as MS Office (Excel, Word, IM) and MHE-specific applications (e.g., RSLogix, Sort Director, IPoint).
Qualifications:
Education:
Technical vocational training or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Experience:
1-2 years of progressively responsible experience in related fields, with a strong electrical background .
Skills:
Proficient in diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical issues.
Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in a distribution or manufacturing environment.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including CAD, electrical schematics, and PLC programming.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
Strong analytical skills and a proactive problem-solving approach.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a Distribution Center environment and may involve exposure to electrical components, machinery, and varying environmental conditions.
Physical Requirements:
The role may require the ability to lift equipment, climb structures, and work in confined spaces.
Other Duties:
Performs other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the maintenance and operations team.
