SUMMARY: The IS Manager is responsible for the implementation, coordination, evaluation, and standardization of the Information Systems department. The IS Manager works closely with department leaders to understand technology needs and recommend solutions. The IS Manager will provide daily leadership and direction to the IS Department staff.

This role also participates in the protection of all data and the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. Exceptional customer service, written, and oral communication skills are required.

The Information Systems Manager must uphold the philosophy and mission of California Aeronautical University while instilling positive and progressive attitudes in all employees.

JOB REQUIREMENTS include but are not limited to the following:

COMPLIANCE:

  • Responsible for compliance with all local, state, accreditation and federal regulations.
  • Ensure that all employees and students are held accountable to the company’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.
  • Ensure completeness, accuracy, and security of campus files, documents and reports.
  • Direct, train and review necessary policies and procedures with employees to ensure a culture of compliance.

SUPERVISION:

    • Oversee and direct all activities of IS Department staff
    • Manage 1 to 3 direct reports.
    • Conduct interviews, hires, trainings and terminations.
    • Manage and ensure IS employees’ performance standards.
    • Ensure through proper monitoring and communication IS employees adhere to the company’s policies and procedures.
    • Ensure IS employees’ performance reviews and disciplinary actions are completed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Create an environment that fosters trust, provides training and development for employees, duties ethically, and is motivational to employees.
  • Maintain a professional customer service relationship with all staff at each location.
  • Train and assist IS personnel with case reports and issues that are beyond their scope of expertise and or skill level.
  • Develops and implements standards, procedures, and guidelines to support operational processes.
  • Lead projects including prioritizing, meeting deadlines, and managing changing priorities.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, upgrades, and resource optimization on all systems.
  • Execute migrations, upgrades, and other projects following industry best practices.
  • Maintain awareness of trends and changes in the Cybersecurity industry and threat landscape.
  • Develop and maintain documentation on installation and configuration procedures.
  • Assist the VP of Information Systems as needed with projects.
  • Provide technical assistance over the phone and via email to all staff when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent, 2-3 years computer networking and/or support experience. 2+ years technical experience with computer software, including the installation and configuration of Windows programs. Majority of experience should be in the area of hardware repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to interact in a pleasant and professional manner with all types of people. Ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple priorities, set and meet deadlines and manage unexpected situations. Strong technology skills necessary. . Extensive experience in examining, investigating and solving dynamic problems with ability to think “out-of-the-box” and develop creative solutions.

TRAVEL DEMANDS:

Travel to various conferences and/or trainings may require overnight stays, and the number of nights is dictated by company and/or by the schedule of events.

The employee must have the ability to travel to various locations as necessary. Must have vehicle suitable to safe and secure transportation. The employee may be required to transport company documents and/or company assets.

SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business communications, financial reports, legal documents, and some government reports. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to students, top management and/or public groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and proportions.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to converse and listen. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger a computer keyboard, and handle the telephone. The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
