Instrument Static Data Manager: West End based Asset Manager


Martis Search are representing a West End based, but global Asset Management company to hire a permanent “Instrument Static Data Manager” to join their Investment Operations team.

The role is permanent and you will report into the Head of Static Data Operations. The position involves managing a small, busy and growing Static Data team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established, but growing West End based Institutional Asset Manager.


The role will be hands-on BAU Instrument/ Reference Static Data, as well as managing/ supervising the work of others and you will also be involved with lots of different Static Data, or Reference Data Operations type projects and streamlining current (Static) Data Operations processes. You will be required to come-up with new ideas and not be afraid to collaborate and think of new ways of working, putting those ideas onto paper, working with other managers and implementing change.

The role will involve with understanding Investment data flows i.e. Equities, Fixed Income, Private Equity fund data.


You will need to be an experienced Instrument Static Data/ Reference Static Data Analyst, preferably having supervised, or managed a Static Data team before, or on the cusp of being a Supervisor (i.e. you have solid Static Data experience and are looking for the step-up). Your Static Data experienced must be gained from a Financial Services company ideally within Asset Management, but our client will also look at Investment Banking, Banking, Fintech, or even from a Data provider background such as Bloomberg etc (and wanting to get into Asset Management).


Also having previous experience using Excel to work with daily BAU Static Data Operations, i.e. using Pivot Tables, V Look Up’s, H Look Up’s etc (comfortable using Excel with these functions in your current role). Having Microsoft PowerBI and also SQL is highly advantageous too.


In addition, having the ability to be a logical thinker is key, as well as having exemplary communication skills i.e. confident to approach people at the right time, to pick up the phone and speak to senior Operations Managers, as well as approaching senior people face-to-face to get information without having been told to.


There is also a lot of deadline and time pressure to each project, so you need to be able to work quickly and efficiently and get all requested projects done well, accurately and on time.

Team and role overview

Purpose

The Investment Operations team is made up of three groups:

  • Data Management – responsible for ensuring investment related data is appropriate, accurate and consistent. Responsible for implementation and development of the Data Governance Policy.
  • Loan Administration – responsible for ensuring all loan transactions are processed in a timely manner and recorded accurately. Responsible for ensuring the company’s portfolio of debt and trade and supply chain finance investments is monitored for lifecycle events and administered effectively and efficiently.
  • portfolio administration – responsible for ensuring all equity and fund transactions are processed in a timely manner and recorded accurately. responsible for ensuring the company’s portfolio of equity and fund investments is monitored for lifecycle events and administered effectively and efficiently.


This role will sit within the Data Management team.


The Data Management Executive will lead daily operational processes and deputise for the Head of Data Management in various projects and workstreams. They will organise how daily processes are completed, including running BAU monitoring processes themselves regularly. The Executive will lead on process development and improvements to ensure the team is adding value to the organsation and provide expertise and guidance on the most appropriate methods to achieve this.


Responsibilities

  • Team leader for daily operational activities
  • Create, maintain, and run BAU monitoring processes using SQL, Power BI, and Excel
  • Manage the rota for completing BAU processes and ensuring it is shared appropriately
  • Lead project activities and deputise for the Head of Data Management where required
  • Provide detailed analysis and proposals, without supervision, to a wide range of data issues and initiatives
  • Managing priorities and workloads for themselves and other team members to ensure deadlines are met with high quality output
  • Ensuring team documentation is thorough and complete
  • Provide advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on good data management practices
  • Be an advocate for good data governance across the organisation


The candidate

Background, skills, aptitude


  • Knowledge and experience of Data Management in a financial services environment
  • Proficient in SQL, Power BI, and Excel to produce new BAU monitoring processes for the company's data
  • In depth understanding of transaction management and/or accounting systems such as eFront, Aladdin, Charles River and how they interact with different systems and processes across the business
  • Ability to prioritise tasks effectively and deliver these priorities on time to a high standard
  • Can provide detailed analysis on issues raised with a view to proposing remediation steps
  • Being able to carry out BAU processes without supervision to a high standard and provide training to others
  • Ability to create and maintain data documentation with a keen eye for the detail
  • Is a team leader and able to recognise where improvements or efficiencies to processes could be made, and able to see these through to implementation
  • Possesses skills to identify system enhancements, or issues, and takes ownership of these through to implementation or resolution
  • A naturally quick learner who retains critical information and can apply it to various scenarios
  • In depth understanding of data modelling and database concepts
  • Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices
  • Self-starter and ability to work under their own initiative is critical
  • An inquisitive nature and willing to think critically and raise concerns effectively
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of JIRA is advantageous
  • Candidates should be strongly motivated by the company’s development mission and ideally demonstrate some commitment to development or social goals through previous executive or non-executive activity.

Salary


£70,000 k pa - £78,800 k pa plus very good holiday allowance and amazing pension, plus Healthcare, Life Assurance etc.
