Atalco Gramercy Operations is the leading producer of Alumina in the United States. Our Gramercy refinery produces 1.2 million tons a year of smelter grade alumina (SGA) for the production of aluminum as well as chemical grade alumina (CGA) which is used in a wide array of industrial applications.
We are currently seeking a Instrument Technician for our Gramercy, LA refinery.
Job Summary/Objective
The primary function of this role is to lay out wiring, inspect, install, test, repair, service, maintain, and wire plant indicating and recording instruments, meters, gauges, relays, thermometers and pyrometric equipment. May also remove, replace, repair control valves as needed. \Will use various power tools, hand tools, indicating, recording and testing instruments and equipment, bracing and soldering equipment, safety devices, hoisting equipment, stevedore, hydra lift, gauges, etc.
Essential Functions
- Receives instructions, blueprints, sketches, diagrams, charts and work orders for job.
- Reads and interprets prints, sketches, diagrams, and charts, diagnose job, plan procedure, develop sketches, lay out, select tools, equipment, and materials best suited for the job. Erects, dismantles, repairs, adjusts, assembles, fabricates, and installs plant electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, temperature, pressure equipment and machines.
- Calibrate, maintain, store and be responsible for plant test instruments.
- Assist instrument engineer, when necessary, in calibrating and testing high voltage protective instruments and plant power metering instruments and thermal survey.
- Make thermal, voltage, current and other surveys pertaining to instrumentation, and/or equipment and devices.
- Reports discrepancies and keeps records as required.
- Operates burning and soldering equipment as necessary to the performance of duties.
- Performs miscellaneous instrumentation pipe work, cutting, threading as necessary.
- Requisitions materials from warehouse, transports to and from work areas and returns. May perform simple self-serve type maintenance on these transportation vehicles.
- Keeps equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Education/Training Requirements
- Highschool diploma or equivalent
- 3 years of previous works experience
- Associate degree in Instrumentation or Certification
