The Role
We are currently seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer who will be responsible for leading execution and delivery of hardware scopes associated with assigned projects and proposals. DeltaV electrical, mechanical and networking design will be the focus of this role.
The NECI Hardware Engineer role takes ownership of project controls designs, budgets, schedules, as well as supporting the customer relationship, have knowledge of specification of equipment and materials based on defined customer needs, as well as and layout of custom control enclosures with associated electrical design packages.
This position requires working knowledge of the design and specification of Emerson products, associated third party buy outs, and computer networking equipment.
What You’ll Do
- Design of electrical systems for automation and control of equipment (mechanical layouts, wiring and loop schematics, network architecture)
- Designs to be compliant with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications
- Be the technical point of contact for assigned hardware engineering projects
- Responsibility for customer satisfaction, on time delivery, service, and quality
- Perform Hardware Factory Acceptance Testing on designed equipment
- Support preliminary engineering (FEED) studies based on customer requests
- Support customer site activities such as FAT, loop checks and start-up activities
- Work with sales team to support proposal efforts by assisting with hardware engineering estimates, scope write-ups and preliminary BOM
- Preparation of submittals and supporting the of final documentation binders for assigned projects
- Provide uncompromising quality to all work processes in designated area of responsibility
- Authority to stop those work processes at any time it is believed that quality is being compromised
What You’ll Bring
- Travel: 30% travel to customer sites within the Greater Boston area
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related engineering fields and/or Associate of Science in Engineering or related engineering field
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in engineering or related technical fields; internships, co-ops, or work experiences doing electrical or mechanical designs during college are applicable
- Understand 1.) basic process control concepts, 2.) traditional analog and discrete signaling as well as bus technology, and 3.) traditional analog & discrete signaling as well as bus technology
- Proficient with computer assisted design/drafting software (AutoCAD) to support development of design for assigned projects and proposals
- Interpret P&ID’s, electrical schematics, loop drawings and general arrangement drawings
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite: Excel, Word, Access, and Project
- Strong interpersonal and team player skills with an ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining project commitments
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple and changing priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Strong communication skills in two parts: 1.) very strong writing skills utilizing the rules of English grammar; 2.) verbally clear, concise, and grammatically correct oral (speaking) communication skills in English
- Physical demands: Lifting to 30 lbs.
Nice to have, but not required
- Experience working directly with computing networking equipment hardware
- AutoCAD or Solidworks Electrical skils
- DCS/PLC hardware knowledge, e.g. DeltaV
- DCS/PLC programming
- Some understanding of serial and Ethernet based communications and hardware
- Experience working with cGMP or in a validated environment
- Understanding of hazardous area and intrinsic safety design
