POSITION SUMMARY:
Advanced Energy is currently seeking Chemical Engineering Interns and Co-Ops to support development activities at our Milpitas, CA production site. This is a hands-on role requiring roughly equal portions of lab time and desk time.Successful candidates will carry out their internships at Advanced Energy’s site in Milpitas, CA. They will work with an experienced engineering team, closely collaborating on the improvement of our photoluminescent material manufacturing and yield.Both undergraduate and post-graduate candidates will be considered for summer and school-year internships. Candidates should be actively pursuing degree programs at one of the following institutions: University of Colorado, Colorado State University, University of Minnesota, University at Buffalo, Rochester Institute of Technology, California Polytechnic State University, San Jose State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or Stanford University.
REPONSIBILITIES:
Candidates may perform and support design activities related to any of the following:
- Learn and apply our current photoluminescent material synthesis and test processes
- Learn and apply current yield analysis methods with a view to simplification and reproducibility
- Assist in development and evaluation of new synthesis and analysis methods suited to our photoluminescent materials. Includes sample prep, test, and data analysis.
- Assist with installation, operation and procedural documentation of any new synthesis and analytical hardware as needed
- Assist in identification and installation of material handling and storage safety equipment and procedures where needed
- Implement key materials analysis techniques to fully characterize manufacturing and finished materials
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Laboratory experience handling/transferring/weighing powders and liquids
- Microscopic inspection of millimeter-scale specimens at a bench
- Knowledge of general materials characterization techniques such as SEM, XRD, XPS
- Steady hands, interest in hands-on activity, safety mindfulness
- Demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based and analysis tools, working knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to meet schedule requirements and define priorities without direct supervision
Preferred:
- Experience with material transfer to/from sintering furnaces
- Experience with common glass, ceramic, and metal labware
EDUCATION:
- Candidates working towards a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 40 credits towards a Chemical Engineering, Material Science or Physical Chemistry degree or equivalent
- GPA > 3.25
COMPENSATION:
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $25to $38per hour.
