About the Role We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Projects to be a part of a new plant start-up based in Port Colborne, Ontario. The incumbent will be a self-starter that takes ownership of assigned projects, responsible for the entire project life cycle from scope determination through timely project closure on assigned projects. This role works in cooperation with other engineers to assist with project details as appropriate. This position directly reports to the Project Director and does not supervise others. Project management of capital and expense projects from concept to project closure Designs and manages install of new and modifications to existing equipment with input from production, maintenance, safety, R&D, and quality groups Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for mechanical designs Specification and install management of new equipment for capital and expense projects Project material quotation, requisition, tracking, and staging Project forecasting, budgeting, invoice management, and controlling costs within project budget Supervise and support installation contractors for project work Supervise and support start-up and internal checkout installation for project work Maintain plant layout master file in AutoCAD Evaluates performance of plant systems and makes recommendations for improvements and cost savings maintains a high level of safety among all employees throughout the project process Uses technical knowledge and awareness of details to recognize when technical problems are developing in the various disciplines and initiate appropriate corrective actions BS in Engineering Required. Mechanical preferred. 6+ years of experience in manufacturing facilities or industrial environments with a focus on mechanical projects, maintenance engineering, and design of machines required. ~ Experience with capital and expense project management is required. ~ Experience with plastic extrusion equipment, web handling equipment, process instrumentation, and utilities that support the process equipment is preferred. ~ Experience must have strong emphasis on execution of multiple projects. ~ Must be proficient in the use of AutoCAD. ~ Must be proficient in the use of AutoDesk Inventor (proficiency in Solidworks is acceptable but must transition to Inventor). ~ Must be proficient in MS Office products and technical writing. ~ Must be proficient in mechanical system design for a balance of reliability, cost, and effectiveness Demonstrated ability to work with multiple other disciplines and plant departments, required. Must be able and willing to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally for training and visiting other company locations. Must be able and willing to work a flexible schedule for urgent matters and to attend in-person meetings and conference calls outside of normal business hours. This position will be based in a temporary structure on or near a construction site until the permanent office is built in 2026. This position is in support of manufacturing and requires working in a production environment around chemicals. The manufacturing facility will be a state of the art in terms of automation and being temperature and humidity controlled. This position has been identified as safety sensitive and involves working in close proximity to operating heavy and complex production equipment, chemical processes, and moving mechanical parts in a construction and manufacturing environment.
