POSITION OVERVIEW

The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the successful installation of assigned projects. The Journeyman Electrician works closely with the Project Manager and the Installation Manager to organize, execute, and follow up on each individual project. He or she may be required to supervise an apprentice and coordinate with the installation crew to ensure that each installation is completed in a timely manner and meets quality standards. The Journeyman Electrician is also responsible for completing and managing project-related documents along with assisting in front-end project estimating and design in coordination with the sales team and Lead Solar Designer.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan Installation:

  • Meet with the Project Manager and Field Operations Director to determine the weeks installation schedule and to confirm Crew Leader assignments for upcoming projects.
  • Review assigned project details and drawings and organize installers and electricians. Delegate prep work, arrange any equipment rental, and schedule necessary vehicles.
  • Use a per-job materials checklist to pack the vehicle before leaving for the job. Make sure vehicles are clean, organized, fueled up, and stocked with necessary materials.

Supervise Installation:

  • Track all labor hours per job. Classify for prep work, travel, installation, and electrical work.
  • Upon arrival at job-site, plan approach, array installation, and electrical work per drawings. Define special conditions and delegate tasks to individual installers.
  • Ensure that all safety and quality standards are met. Supervise all installers in these areas and coach when necessary. Train new installers.
  • Make all electrical-specific decisions on the job-site. Call the Project Manager or Field Operations Director for consultation when necessary. Refer all customer questions to Project Manager.
  • If additional materials are used or purchased to complete the job, add these to the per-job materials checklist.
  • Inform the Project Manager when the job is ready for inspection. Verify that permit is always on site and accessible.
  • Before leaving the job site: Complete the installation checklist.

Follow-Up:

  • Deliver installation checklist and per-job materials checklist to Project Manager.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Field Operations Director in completing project as-built worksheets following project completion.

What youll do as the Solar Electrician:

  • Install residential and commercial photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage systems
  • Wire and terminate connections for solar array, solar inverter, and battery output circuits
  • Interconnect solar inverter and battery storage systems to utility services
  • Test and commission equipment
  • Program and configure inverters, controls, and online monitoring systems
  • Perform regular maintenance on PV system components including modules, arrays, equipment, weather sealing, safety systems, structural systems, and balance of systems components
  • Communicate effectively with customers and coworkers on scheduling and job status
  • Assist project estimators with time and materials estimating for future electrical scopes of work


Job Requirements:

  • Must have a valid journeyman electrician license in the State of Montana
  • Up-to-date, high-level of understanding of the Electric Code with respect to PV systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical equipment, components, and circuits
  • Valid drivers license and the ability to travel throughout Montana to perform installations
  • Previous experience in the solar industry a plus
