Position Title: ELECTRICIAN JOURNEYMAN

Pay Type: Hourly

General Summary of Position:


Work will consist of installation, alterations, additions and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the commercial and industrial electrical industry.

Performs all electrical tasks with or without general supervision. Has the ability to read blueprints, terminate cable, install and trouble shoot control wiring from drawings. Is able to demonstrate experience factors exceeding an electrical helper and must be sufficient on roughin work.

  • Wire and conduit sizing
  • Switchgear installation and termination
  • Layout and preparation for installation
  • Underground layout and roughin
  • Practices and comprehends safe work procedures

Position Reports to: Supervisor / Superintendent

LICENSES: Current Driver's License and have own transportation, (most job sites are not served by public transportation)

Electrical Journeyman

EDUCATION: High School Graduate, holder of G.E.D., or equivalent training

EXPERIENCE: Has 4 years of previous electrical experience

Required Competencies:


  • Positively identify colors of wires
  • Comprehends reading and drawing prints and schematics of same
  • Bend conduit by hand with hand benders
  • Must use all power tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, and knockout punches.
  • Capable of digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment
  • Operates two (2) handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers
  • Operate company trucks with manual and automatic transmission
  • Operate equipment, trenchers, scissor lifts, lift trucks in a safe manner
  • Read and interprets maps, instructional manuals, specifications, work site directions, blue prints and written instructions
  • Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts (electric or gas powered)

Essential Job Functions:


  • Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, and snow
  • Must arrive to job site 15 minutes prior to start time and ready to work.
  • Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (PortaJohns)
  • Job requires employee to have required personal tools with them at all times (waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs.)
  • Work from all type ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders and carry and relocate up to 12' step ladder by one's self
  • Perform work at various heights, from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks or other safe work areas
  • Work in restricted areas (switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, and crawl spaces)
  • Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, no-cut gloves, steel toe boots at all times), respirator when required
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers
  • Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required and night shifts

PHYSICAL FUNCTION:


  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach over head.
  • Lift 51 pounds
  • Constantly moving on your feet
  • Climb ladders (all types)
  • Completing overhead work for full day assignments
  • Must be able to make transition to any job site required work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building
  • Possess good vision (normal or corrected)
  • Responsible for securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete their assigned tasks
