Junior Project Planner

Summary

You will essentially be responsible for project performance, site survey access, resource planning and coordination in addition to project financial reporting, contract support, subcontract administration.

You will work closely with Project Managers, GIS Specialists, Engineers, and Town Planners to keep projects on track and manage conflicts. You will also support the development of project and construction programmes and carry out project commercial reporting and provide support in managing the contract and subcontracts.

Although no experience is required it would be an advantage if you also have any of the following: NEC contract knowledge, MS Project or Primavera P6 experience. Development Consent Order (or similar) or linear infrastructure planning experience and OHL, cable, or substation experience.



What You'll Do

  • Project Management: Ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget. This involves planning resources, coordinating site access, and tracking financial progress.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with Project Managers, GIS Specialists, Engineers, and Town Planners to keep projects on track and handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Program and Financial Reporting: Help create project schedules and budgets, and report on project progress and costs.
  • Contract and Subcontract Administration: Assist in managing contracts and subcontracts, including monitoring changes and supporting invoicing processes.
  • Site Coordination: Help plan and organize site visits and surveys.

Requirements

  • Education: A degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field, or relevant industry experience.
  • Experience: No prior experience needed, but it’s helpful if you know about:
    • NEC contracts
    • MS Project or Primavera P6 (project management software)
    • Development Consent Orders or infrastructure planning
    • Overhead lines, cables, or substations

Additional Details

  • Location: Based in Derby, with occasional travel for meetings and site visits.
  • Work Environment: Mostly office-based but may require site visits, where you'll need to follow safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Support: Help project managers deliver projects on time and on budget by developing plans and tracking resources.
  • Client Interaction: Understand client needs and ensure project progress meets their expectations.
  • Team Coordination: Work with different departments and external agencies to support project tasks.
  • Reporting: Submit monthly progress reports and monitor project costs against budgets.
  • Contract Management: Track contract variations and support the invoicing process.

  • Appraisals: Engage in annual performance reviews.
  • Quality and Safety: Support company reporting on project performance and comply with all quality and safety documentation.
