About the Role:

Woodside Energy is seeking a dedicated and experienced Controls Engineer to join our Karratha Gas Plant (KGP) Technical Support and Onshore Projects teams. This position is instrumental in delivering engineering solutions that align with the strategic objectives of our operations and assets.

The successful candidate will be embedded within a multidisciplinary engineering team and report directly to the KGP Technical Support Lead. You will collaborate with a team that includes four Instrument and Controls Engineers of varying levels of expertise, contributing to a supportive and technically strong environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to engineering deliverables and technical queries to support procurement, contracting, construction, commissioning, and project close-out activities.

  • Communicate engineering risks and issues to the discipline or engineering lead, ensuring mitigation strategies are in place.

  • Identify and manage opportunities during early project phases, including “Assess” and “Select.”

  • Prepare Scopes of Work for minor to medium CAPEX/OPEX initiatives to enable outsourcing of detailed engineering activities.

  • Justify and manage current and planned work programs, ensuring alignment with budgeting processes.

  • Oversee scope delivery within approved timeframes and resources.

  • Provide technical recommendations and approvals for engineering changes and deviations.

  • Ensure all modifications comply with Woodside’s Management of Change processes and procedures.

  • Conduct and coordinate engineering studies, integrating findings into operational strategies.

  • Monitor contractor and supplier performance, and recommend improvements where necessary.

Skills and Experience:

  • Solid background in Controls Engineering, preferably within the oil and gas industry.

  • Experience with Triconex and Honeywell DCS (TDC3000) is highly desirable.

  • Proficient in Process Hazard Analysis and Functional Safety practices (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA, IEC 61511).

  • Capable of identifying and assessing engineering risks and making sound technical decisions.

  • Strong ability to work independently, resolve issues, and manage competing priorities.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, accredited under the Washington Accord of the International Engineering Alliance.

  • Certification as a Functional Safety Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) is .
