[Job Summary]
The System Design Engineer for the Submarine and Underground Cable is responsible for the engineering of submarine and underground cable systems contributing to the energy transmission. Within the Project group, the System Engineer is accountable for the system design at both tender and contract stages, including the definition and optimization technical solutions in compliance with customer requirements and environmental constraints.
[Job Description]
-Definition of technically acceptable and commercially competitive cable system designs in line with
customer requirements.
-Calculations and studies related to cable thermal, electrical and mechanical project requirements.
-Calculations of cable current ratings and electrical stresses.
-Calculations of mechanical forces and stresses exerted on a cable during handling and installation
operations
-Knowledge of standards and guidelines related to cable system design and testing.
-Interface with R&D and Product Management for the definition of innovative technical solutions.
-Definition of the qualification and testing regimen in line with relevant industry standards and
specifications.
-Provide support to commercial team during tender phase through the definition of costs, drafting of
technical documentation, and customer negotiations.
-Provide support to project management team during contract phase on the technical aspects of the
proposed system solution, inclusive of documentation and participation in dedicated meetings with
customers.
-Production of detailed costing of all materials and services and of technical content to be submitted to
customers.
-Definition of qualification test procedures based on project-relevant specifications and standards with
the supervision and support of Cable Testing Department.
-Support in the preparation of formal documentation and design information for the manufacture of
submarine cable, accessories and cable installation activities.
-Interface with multiple departments including Manufacturing, Installation, Network Components,
Quality and Testing during tender and execution of projects
-Interface engineering with multiple suppliers including technical consulting firms, joint and
termination suppliers and ancillary system suppliers for cable such as cable protection systems during
tender and execution of projects.
-Participation in technical presentations with customers as well as at technical conferences, seminars
and workshops.
-Development of new calculations, procedures or methods to comply with the latest technical and
QHSE standards.
[Qualifications]
-Bachelor’s degree in engineering, with preference Electrical, Mechanical, civil or related discipline.
-Experience in electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical calculation and modelling is considered a plus
(e.g. FEM, ATP, EMTP-RV, UFLEX, OrcaFlex)
-More than 3 years of related engineering experience preferably in an EPCI environment
-Fluent Korean & English
-Availability for business travels and site visit
