Location: Tewkesbury

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday to Sunday)

Salary: £35,000 per annum



Job Description



An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Manager to lead the laboratory operations, ensuring products meet safety, quality, and legal compliance standards. This role involves effective team leadership, development, and coordination of laboratory processes.



Key Responsibilities:



* Oversee laboratory operations and ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards.



* Collaborate with the Laboratory Team Leader and ensure adequate rota coverage, including covering shifts when required.



* Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment according to schedules.



* Check and sign off laboratory paperwork.



* Schedule and monitor product testing using correct methodologies.



* Manage, train, and develop laboratory staff, reviewing performance and setting development plans.



* Ensure clear communication on food safety and quality issues.



* Assist the Technical Manager during site accreditation audits and meetings.



* Train and assess new and existing staff per the Laboratory Manual and company standards.



* Coordinate testing and sampling of materials, conducting root cause analysis when necessary.



* Manage external lab sample submissions, monitor results, and prepare Certificates of Analysis/Conformance for customers.



* Initiate and report on non-conforming product issues, advising the Technical Manager on product failures.



* Generate and coordinate Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports.



* Maintain compliance with laboratory policies on Health and Safety, COSHH, Food Safety, and HACCP.



* Maintain a clean and hygienic workplace.



Essential Skills:



* Background experience in a laboratory setting, ideally in Food Science, Microbiology, or Biology.



* Strong organisational and time management skills.



* Knowledge of root cause analysis and corrective actions.



* Experience coordinating small teams, ideally in a laboratory environment.



* Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) for documenting test results and reporting to management.



* Confident, motivated, and proactive, with strong leadership abilities.



* Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.



* HNC/Degree in a science-related subject desirable.
