Position Overview

Selected by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Strategic Warning and Surveillance Systems Division for Operations, Maintenance, and Sustainment (OM&S) of critical mission systems for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Cheyenne Mountain Complex (NCMC), we support the Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) and Space Support Contract II (NISSC II).

Since 2020, through the (ITW/AA) and Space Support Contract II (NISSC II), has provided:

  • Operations, maintenance, and Sustainment of current and legacy systems for the surveillance and cataloging of manmade objects in space
  • Mitigation of orbital conflicts
  • Threat warnings and control from airborne, land-based, and space-based systems for threat activities
  • Operations and maintenance of classified communications
  • Software development and integration


NISSC II supports the classified communications and processing for Command and Control (C2) capability and legacy space C2 systems located at: Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station (CMSFS), Colorado, Peterson Space Force Base (PSFB), Colorado, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, and Numerous sensor and forward operator sites around the world.


Primary Responsibilities


The Lead Infrastructure/Platform Service Engineer supports North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) on the Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) and Space Support Contract II (NISSC II). The candidate will:

  • Technical team lead of system administrators and automation engineers
  • Install and maintain VMware visualization environments
  • Install and maintain Kubernetes-based orchestration platforms
  • Implement and maintain a Centralized and Access Management (IDAM) solution
  • Install and configure Red Hat Satellite services
  • Integrate Red Hat Satellite with VMware products
  • Examine current server configurations and scaling as necessary
  • Configure Ansible to integrate with Satellite server
  • Configure Ansible to integrate with VMware Cloud Foundation and Aria Automation
  • Ensure security compliance of Red Hat and Windows systems through Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and patching CVEs
  • Deploy virtual machine STIG templates
  • Design, provision, manage, and monitor systems and infrastructure
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd tier support to mission partners
  • Coordinate with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Work to mature and further develop IT standards and processes
  • Research and propose new technology options and methodologies


Minimum Qualifications


  • Must have or obtain within 60 days of start date IAT Level II Certification (CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP)
  • 12 years or more of IT experience
  • 14 years of general work experience
  • 3 or more years’ experience leading an Engineering Team
  • Experience with isolating issues and apply troubleshooting methodologies to repair, document and prevent issues
  • Experience with managing deployment, configuration, upgrades, and patch systems
  • Experience and in-depth understanding of VMware vSphere and vCenter
  • Experience with: Installing and hardening Kubernetes-based orchestration platform


Qualifications


  • Experience with CI/CD systems, GitOps, Terraform, Packer, Bamboo, etc.
  • Knowledge of information assurance compliance to specified standards, including DoD STIGs and ICD 50
  • Experience designing, building and deploying DevSecOps pipelines with Bitbucket, Git, Bamboo, Artifactory (or equivalent tools)
  • Experience designing and implementing application deployment pipelines and developing software in a containerized environment with Kubernetes and Docker. Specific experience with Tanzu
  • Current Red Hat Certified Kubernetes Expert certificate or equivalent
  • Full software life-cycle automation experience (design, development, test, deployment), including deployment to a production environment
  • Experience with Atlassian tools, including Bitbucket integrations with JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience managing and providing redundant deployments with several Linux services like NFS, FTP, DNS, NTP, LVM etc.
  • Solid understanding of the fundamentals of providing Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Software as a service
