POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lead Laboratory Technician is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the clinical laboratory and providing leadership and support to Laboratory team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain the clinical laboratory in a manner that is safe and compliant with OSHA standards and applicable local regulations.
- Ensure that the environmental conditions of the laboratory are appropriate for the testing performed and provide a safe environment in which employees and patients are protected from physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
- Assist Principal Investigators, Site Director, and Clinical Research Coordinators with logistics and planning of all study procedures.
- Initiate quality control measures and monitor work quality for compliance with laboratory standards.
- Appropriately identify and prioritize service/quality issues or problems that need to be addressed by management, acting as needed.
- Maintain inventory and purchase supplies for the laboratory. Recommend the procurement of new laboratory equipment and monitors maintenance/repair needs of existing equipment.
- Monitor specimen storage to ensure sample integrity.
- Record and report test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently.
- Ensure that an approved procedure manual is available to all personnel responsible for any aspect of the laboratory process.
- Perform clinical tasks including, but not limited to, vital signs, height and weight, ECG, phlebotomy, specimen packing and shipping.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; coaching and mentoring employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

- Proficiency with a mechanical pipettor.
- Familiarity with how to safely transport hazardous materials in accordance with IATA training and Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR).
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or related field .
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certificate .
- International Air Transport Association (IATA) certificate .
- OSHA training certificate .
Experience
- Two to four years of experience in a laboratory environment with similar functions.
- Phlebotomy experience a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times, may require stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
