We are looking for a motivated and skilled Machine Operator/Technician to join our production team! In this role, you will be responsible for setting up and operating automated machinery to streamline production, ensuring that we deliver high-quality products to our customers. You’ll work closely with production managers, quality inspectors, and team members to meet daily production targets while maintaining quality standards and driving continuous improvement.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Machine Operator/Technician (Tech) is responsible for setting up and operating automated machinery to streamline the production process efficiently and effectively to produce quality products. Tech will operate full integration of feeding, gluing, flipping, tape edging, cover filling, inspection, and packing. Tech is responsible for meeting n daily production targets. Will also perform quality assurance checks on mattresses and contribute to continuous improvement processes. In their daily work, Tech will interact with production managers, quality inspectors, and other team associates.

The Machine Operator/Technician must be able to communicate with coworkers, supervisors, and management clearly, with dignity and respect.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Machine setup and operation: Conduct a pre-check production line inspection prior to the beginning of daily production.

Set up and adjust mattress manufacturing machines according to production specifications, including adjusting cutting patterns, stitch settings, and pressure levels.

  • Material handling: Feeds raw materials like foam, fabric, and springs into the machines, ensuring proper alignment and consistent feed. Monitors automated cross conveyors mattress transfer from Mattress Build to Tape Edge department.Performs Tape Edge Operation, using automated machinery, securely sews mattress borders and gussets around edges of mattress.
  • Quality control: Inspects finished mattress components for defects like uneven stitching, incorrect cuts, or improper assembly, and reports any issues to supervisors.
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting: Performs routine cleaning of machinery to ensure optimal performance, identifying and addressing minor malfunctions, and reporting any major issues.
  • Production monitoring: Monitors machine performance, identifying potential production bottlenecks, and adjusting settings as needed to maintain optimal output. Maintains accurate production records and reports any issues to the supervisor.
  • Safety compliance: All work must be completed in a safe and efficient manner under the direction of the Plant Manager. Adheres to all safety procedures related to machine operation, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

 

Specific tasks may include:

  • Operating cutting machines to precisely cut foam blocks according to mattress designs.
  • Utilizing sewing machines to stitch fabric components together, including mattress borders and cover seams.
  • Positioning and attaching mattress components like springs and padding onto the base frame.
  • Checking for accurate dimensions and ensuring proper mattress construction.
  • Maintaining records of production data, including machine settings and material usage.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand automated machine operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Attention to detail to identify and rectify machine malfunctions.
  • Ability to manage their time well, focus on quality, and be organized.
  • Mechanical aptitude to operate and maintain machinery malfunctions.
  • Basic hand-tool skills for minor maintenance tasks.
  • Team-focused to meet production deadlines.
  • Ability to be a team player and support an inclusive workplace, for example, respectful of different associate views.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED , or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • experience: 2+ years of related on-the-job technical experience working in a manufacturing industry.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Experience working in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
  • High noise levels in the work environment can be constant or intermittent.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to hot and cold temperatures in the work environment.
