Job Overview:

Our client an Oil & Gas Operator is seeking highly skilled Machinery Engineers to join their team on a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit offshore West Africa. The successful candidates will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of rotating and static machinery onboard the FPSO, ensuring continuous, safe, and efficient operation of critical equipment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and Reliability:
    • Oversee the maintenance of rotating equipment such as compressors, turbines, pumps, and other mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance.
    • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce unplanned downtime and extend machinery life.
    • Conduct regular inspections and performance assessments to identify potential issues before they lead to failures.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs:
    • Diagnose mechanical failures, determine root causes, and execute effective repair solutions.
    • Collaborate with the operations team to troubleshoot and resolve machinery issues promptly, minimizing operational disruptions.
    • Manage and oversee third-party contractors during major repair or overhauling activities.
  • Optimization and Upgrades:
    • Identify opportunities for machinery upgrades or process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
    • Recommend and implement modifications to existing equipment to improve reliability and performance.
    • Stay updated on the latest technological advancements and incorporate best practices in machinery management.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
    • Ensure all machinery operations comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
    • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
    • Prepare reports on machinery performance, incidents, and maintenance activities for management review.
  • Risk Management and Safety:
    • Conduct risk assessments related to machinery operation and maintenance, ensuring that safety procedures are strictly followed.
    • Participate in safety drills and emergency response activities, ensuring that machinery safety protocols are integrated into overall safety plans.
    • Lead initiatives to improve the safety and reliability of machinery systems on the FPSO.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in machinery engineering within the oil and gas industry, preferably with offshore / FPSO experience.
    • Strong background in maintaining and troubleshooting rotating equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in using condition monitoring tools and techniques (e.g., vibration analysis, thermography).
    • Expertise in maintenance management software and systems.
    • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and industry standards.
  • Certifications:
    • Relevant certifications in machinery maintenance, reliability engineering, or mechanical engineering.
    • Offshore safety training certifications (e.g., BOSIET, HUET) are preferred.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively liaise with operations teams, contractors, and management.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in all maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural, multidisciplinary offshore environment.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a challenging offshore environment, with a proactive approach to managing machinery reliability.
